Supplemental Draft Preveiw

Bryan BrackneyJul 11, 2009
Some of the more recent players drafted:

- Paul Oliver (Back up free safety for the San Diego Chargers) Oliver was drafted to play as a cornerback, but has since switched to reserve safety role after the Chargers drafted Antoine Cason. Oliver was a Parade All-American in high school, and he was also ranked the number one cornerback by Rivals.com. In 2007, Oliver was kicked off of the Georgia team due to academic reasons. Oliver was drafted in the supplemental draft.

- Jared Gaither (now the starting right tackle for the Baltimore Ravens) Gaither competed with Jeb Terry to replace Jonathan Ogden, arguably the best offensive player to play for the Ravens at right tackle. Gaither was considered a canidate for the Outland Trophy heading into his last college season, but he was dismissed from the team because of academic issues.

The 2009 Supplemental Draft Candidates Are:

McKinner Dixon - DE - Texas Tech - Dixon spent his freshman season in 2005 with Texas Tech, but after the season he flunked out. He attended a Junior college to improve his grades and returned to Texas Tech two year latter. Dixon recorded 9 sacks last season, while leading on Red Raiders defensive line on a magical run. In April, Mike Leach banned Dixon from the team because of academic reasons.

Deon Murphy - WR - Kansas State - Murphy like Dixon spent his freshman year with a top team, then went to a JUCO, than transferred back, and finally flunked out of school. Murphy did not receive much action at Kansas State, although he has the potential to be a very good slot receiver.

Jeremy Jarmon - DE - Kentucky - Jarmon was suspended for his last season in college for testing positive for banned substances. Jarmon attracted 22 teams to his pre draft workout. I would expect some team to draft him.

Corey Surrency - WR - Florida State - Surrency dropped out of high school in 9th grade, but ended up returning, and managed to graduate high school. Surrency played indoor football before enrolling to FSU, so he lost his eligibility. Long story short- he is entering the supplemental draft.

Joe McMahon - OT - Central Michigan - McMahon has been all over the place, but after yet again not meeting the academic requirements, McMahon is entering the supplemental draft.
