Free Agent Frenzy: The Best Of What's Available.

Elliot SchallJul 11, 2009

The Cleveland Cavaliers have watched many top free agents sign with other NBA franchises. Charlie Villanueva to the Pistons, Ron Artest to the Lakers, Hedo Turkoglu to the Raptors, Trevor Ariza to the Rockets, and Rasheed Wallace to the Celtics. Shawn Marion, another top free agent  we pursed, was traded in a sign and trade to the Mavericks. Danny Ferry has been working very hard, but just couldn't get some of the high profile free agents.

Now this offseason hasn't been bad at all. We brought in The Big Diesel, re-signed Andy, and signed Anthony Parker, who is an upgrade from Sasha Pavlovic and can shoot the three and a good perimeter defender. I know some people may not think that's enough but not to worry, Mr. Ferry is not done!

Both Ferry and head coach Mike Brown flew out to LA last week to meet with Trevor Ariza, who ended up signing with the Rockets, Josh Childress, and Dan Fegan who is the agent for both Anderson Varejao and Shawn Marion, and they also met with Anthony Parker. After that little get away, they were able to come back with the signings of both Parker and Varejao. However, Josh Childress who still remains available would be a nice addition.

Childress, who played his college ball at Stanford and spent 4 years with the Atlanta Hawks and last year overseas, averages a career 11.1 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game. He in my opinion would be a terrific bench scorer to back up LeBron and play a little shooting guard.

The guy who I would really like to sign is Lamar Odom, who hands down is the best free agent available. He's coming off of a championship season with the Lakers averaging 11.3 ppg and 8.2 rpg. He is a solid PF who kills us in the paint and on the boards. My advice to Danny Ferry is if you can't beat em' join em'! Sign Lamar Odom.

There are a few other good free agents still available besides those two. Jerry Stackhouse, Matt Barnes, Glen Davis, Linas Kleiza, David Lee, and Marquis Daniels. Could you imagine if we had both Shaq and Big Baby on the same team? How about Stackhouse coming off the bench to back up LeBron and teach fellow North Carolina alum Danny Green to be a solid SG/SF in the NBA! So many Possibilities, what will Danny Ferry do next? Well we're just going to sit back and hope for the best! Don't forget we can always bring Joe "The Pro" Smith and Wally Szczerbiak back, so either way we are in pretty good shape.
