Carlos Boozer Trade: Utah Jazz Must Recruit Thunder For Deal As Blazers "Bayl"

NFL News And RumorsJul 11, 2009

There has been a hotly rumored trade surrounding the Utah Jazz, Chicago Bulls, and Portland Trail Blazers centering on All Star F Carlos Boozer, G Kirk Hinrich and F Tyrus Thomas. The Trail Blazers were to be asked to part with players such as Travis Outlaw, Steve Blake, and Martell Webster.

The Blazers motivation is to gain a proven backcourt mate for All Pro G Brandon Roy. Even with his increasingly diminished role in Chicago Hinrich averaged 13.9 PG, 6.1APG, and 4.4 RPG. Being paired alongside Roy his production would certainly increase and would thrive playing alongside the All Star.

The Bulls motivation should be obvious, to acquire an established All Star F in Carlos Boozer. Even when he was hurt alot in 2008 he averaged 16.6 PPG, and 10.6 APG last season for the Jazz

The Jazz have salary dumping motivation. They would like to rid themselves of Boozers $12.7 million salary so they can comfortably sign restricted FA F Paul Millsap an offer and still stay under the luxary tax threshold by a sizeable margin.

This whole sweet deal has apparently been put on hold as the Blazers have been asked to include Jerryd Beyeless as part of a package.

Unless they can be swayed to part with Beyless they Jazz and Bulls will likely have to find a new trading partner.

The Blazers also added an intriguing wrinkle to this whole affair by offering Paul Millsap a four year, $36 million dollar offer, the Jazz have one week to match.

The only team that can plausibly fit into the salary structure necessary are the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Being a young rebuilding team with a solid nucleus, they should jump at the opportunity to add some veteran savvy in Kirk Hinrich / F Tyrus Thomas, or an established All Star like Boozer.

They are unlikely to be able to do nothing more then bid the highest in the 2010 Free Agent Bonanza. Unless someone like F Chris Bosh really takes the money over winning in a big way, Boozer is their best chance at adding a true franchise type impact player.

For taking on some salary the Thunder would also likely coup a first round pick as well, GM Sam Presti collects those things like a hobby.

Or depending on the trade structure the Bulls could still very well land Boozer, it's all of what will continue being discussed among the teams, there are several scenarios on the table as aforementioned.

We will see how the trade talks shake out in the coming hours, and if Portland might still be a willing partner.

The Chicago Sun Times reported the stalled trade negotations.

The Associated Press reported the Paul Millsap signing by Portland.
