Hoyer Injured Shoulder in Week 16
Monday, Dec. 22
Brian Hoyer found his way back under center in Week 16, but his return may be short-lived.
Hoyer injured his shoulder taking over for Johnny Manziel, who suffered a hamstring injury against the Panthers. Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported the news regarding the quarterback:
Head coach Mike Pettine later confirmed the news, via Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal:
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported that rookie quarterback Connor Shaw may get the call in Week 17 if Hoyer can't go.
Pettine confirmed that during his press conference, via Cabot:
Hoyer has thrown for 3,326 yards while tallying 12 touchdowns and 13 interceptions this season. He got the nod to start the season and helped keep the Browns in playoff contention but was replaced prior to Week 15 against Cincinnati after a string of poor performances. Manziel struggled heavily in the contest but got the starting nod again in Week 16 before his injury.
If Shaw has to start, expect the Browns to lean on the run game, where they've found success behind Isaiah Crowell and Terrance West.
For now, the Browns' quarterback situation is very much up in the air as they go into the final week of the season against the Baltimore Ravens.
