Former Tennessee Titan and Baltimore Raven Steve McNair's Suicide PSA

josh davisJul 9, 2009

In a release that came this morning, Steve McNair had recently partially recorded a PSA in regards to suicide.

The producer's of the video have stated they will not seek to finish, and therefore, air the PSA. I probably stand alone in thinking this is a mistake.

I really do wish the family and friends of Mr. McNair's all the best, and I am deeply sorry for what happened this passed weekend, but I am pretty sure he would've wanted that seen.

And this may come off as brash, and a little morbid, and I mean no disrespect to the family and friends. But considering what has happened, what better way to show the hurt that such actions can put on a family.

What better way to remember this great man than seeing him speak on the terrible thing that is suicide. And his story should shed some light, and really speak to those considering it, and show them the choice is far from right.

Again I apologize if anyone takes offense to this, this is my opinion, and mine alone. And I am aware that he himself did not commit suicide, but as it has been released, his murderer did.

I just think it is something the producers and the family need to discuss further, and it is a story, i think should be told.

And i cannot think of a better way to tell it, then from a man we all grew to love through football, who was a victim of someone who in turn directly after, committed suicide.

Many times we see people tell us things are wrong, using the same medium that he used, yet they rarely have the experience. Or have never dealt with the very thing they are speaking out about.

Here is a very different story, again, i think it is one that should be heard.
