WWE: Is It a Good Look?

SwellyJul 9, 2009

I must admit I have wanted to write my second article based upon WWE superstar attires (look) and the affect or connection they may have on their success in the business.

I have continued to put it off until I recently witnessed the costume Zack Ryder seems to be sporting currently.

Since Mr. Ryder is my inspiration for this piece I will begin with my worst attires or looks that, in my opinion, fail and in turn may lead to the downfall of their character.

Ryder tops the list with his horrible one-legged tights.  It has yet to be seen whether he will flop or not, but can anyone honestly take him seriously enough to put him in any sort of title match or PPV?  I think not and would be surprised if proven wrong.

Another example is the Colons' tag attires.  They are second only to Ryder's half-assed tights--no pun intended.  It looks like they belong in FCW.

They have now split, so we will see if Carlito goes back to the eat spit tights which I never thought was great but never thought it was all that bad either.

Let's keep going down the list.  Next, is The Miz.  His shorts are a mess.  (Flames, be Miz, chick with a magnet?? Real clever; I'm awesome shirt, the fedora, the purple hair, and the stupid Cena track record sleeve).

He needs to further solidify an identity because he is just all over the place, and again I don't think I am alone when I say it is difficult to take him seriously.

I am aware that the Colons were previous tag champs as well as The Miz. I am curious to see if they can gain further accolades looking the way they do.

Some other notable mentions are R-Truth and Tommy Dreamer.  Again, I feel like I am contradicting myself because Dreamer is a current champ but I think we all know that the WWE sort of felt obligated for all the jobbing he has done in the past.

Now l will speak on my favorite attires and the success these superstars are garnishing as a possible result.  First off, John Morrison. Awesome look and would not change a thing unless he was still sporting the studded abs.

Another favorite of mine is MVP.  I didn't care for the upper body suit in the beginning of his career but it has evolved and I think it looks great and fits the MVP persona seeing as how it has an athletic/under amour look to it.  The nose strip and headband are also nice touches.

I also am a fan of Evan Bourne's tights.  Although, they seem like a slight rip-off of AJ Styles.

Finally, I would like to mention Mark Henry's singlet.  This man has gone through so many different looks during his tenure.  I like the Olympic Weightlifting logo.  It suits him well, and notice the push as of late.

Now I will finish with more veteran attires and their current status in the WWE.  All of the headliners have great looks, which is what this article is meant to prove.

Triple H, Jericho, Orton, Cena...ugh, Mysterio, Taker, Michaels, Edge, Punk.  All successful wrestlers.  All have a good to great look.

So to all those Zach Ryder's out there, I believe image is a crucial factor to becoming a successful superstar.  Just ask Kizarny or DJ Gabriel.

Would love to hear your feedback from some of your favorite or not so favorite wrestling attires from any era and whether or not you agree with the topic.
