Truths About The 2009 Like It Or Not
Just like all of I am looking forward to the college football season. Like every year this season will have as many twist and turns that drive any fan nuts. But lets cut to the chase there are some things that if you look at trends and history (history always repeats itself) that will happen this year in college football. Keep in mind I am going off if everyone stays healthy and the projected starters as of now. Some of you will love me or hate me after reading this, that's fine I am being objective.
Let us start with the obvious. Florida will win the national title this year. I know USC this and Oklahoma that yeah yeah and I will get to why they won't win in a second. First of all Florida is returning ALL the starters on the defense and as we all defense wins championships. Secondly, most of the offensive line is back and anytime you have experience on the offensive line it equals success, look it up it's true. Also, lets look at Florida's schedule it's very favorable with the toughest game at LSU which LSU still has some question marks. Finally, Tim Tebow, need I say more. This guy was made for this offense and once again they will drive defensive coordinators nuts. I know you are thinking you must be a Florida fan blah blah blah. Um no I am a Clemson fan and my girlfriend went to Georgia so I actually dislike Florida, but you cannot discount how good they are.
Lets move on to Oklahoma. Trust things are not O-K in Oklahoma. All you Oklahoma fans are thinking well we got Bradford and Grisham back we will have the best offense. Hate to break to you, Oklahoma will have some problems on offense. Guess what, you have a new offensive line. Simple history states if you have an inexperienced offensive line you will struggle. Lets look at two teams last year with dynamic skill players, preseason top ten rankings, and inexperienced offensive lines. Those teams are Clemson and Georgia both had really high hopes with NFL talent on offense and what happened. Both had very disappointing seasons. It all starts up front. Now lets look at the schedule, there is game that will give you trouble early that is October 3 at Miami. Miami will have a fast defense and the offensive line will still be getting its feet wet. I know you are saying well our defense is strong they will win games. True, but you couldn't beat Texas with that defense last year what makes you think they can do it this year. My prediction is Oklahoma's defense will be enough to keep them in the top 10 but you can forget about the national title
Ok USC is next. What can I say but your team is young. There are only 7 seniors on the entire roster which may spell trouble by a maturity stand point. The defense will have to replace the entire line backing core and on top of that USC is going with a freshman QB. Only twice since the NCAA allowed freshman to play in 1972 has a freshman QB led its team to a national title. That would be in 1983 and 1985. So its been 24 years since its happened, that doesn't look too great for USC's chances. The schedule brings some concerns too all of USC's toughest games are on the road starting on September 12 at Ohio State. It is followed by October 3 at Cal, October 17 at Notre Dame, and Halloween night at Oregon. I can guarantee USC loses at least two of those games. My prediction is USC will win the Pac-10 and play in the Rose Bowl but it will come down to the wire in the Pac-10 with Oregon and Cal.
I bet you are asking who will play in the national title game and lose to Florida and my answer is drum roll Texas. I almost went with Virginia Tech but the ACC is so wacky I just don't trust any team from that conference. Texas's schedule is pretty easy with Oklahoma is only tough game on the schedule. Yes they are young but they won't be challenged much as the season goes on. Plus they have a senior at QB that will lead them through their favorable schedule.
So thats it for now, in the coming weeks I will go more in depth with each conference. I know some of you now hate me and send bad comments, but I just stated the truth like it or not.
