Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Sherman has quickly become one of the top defensive players in the game after being selected in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL draft. He was named First-Team All-Pro in both 2012 and 2013 and had a league-high 16 interceptions over those two years.
His strong play last season was a big part of the Seahawks having the top defense in the NFL en route to the Super Bowl title.
Analysts, such as Todd Haislop of Sporting News, believe that Sherman has become the best player in the game at his position:
Sherman isn't enjoying as much success in 2014, but his success in years prior is still reason to fear throwing toward him each week.
In addition to separating himself on the field, the cornerback has become one of the most popular players in the league. This past offseason, he won a fan vote to earn the cover of Madden NFL 15:
Of course, he laughed at the idea of the "Madden curse," which has caused many injuries and disappointing seasons for past cover athletes. According to Terry Blount of ESPN.com, Sherman simply responded by saying, "I don’t believe in curses."
Whether it was chance or something bigger, it seems like the curse has taken another victim, as Sherman could be out of action.
Fortunately for Seattle, there is still a lot of talent in the secondary. Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor are two of the best safeties in the game, and they will be able to compensate for the loss of the No. 1 cornerback.
That being said, the organization probably wishes Brandon Browner and Walter Thurmond were still around for depth after each left in the offseason.
