Marcus Mariota Injury: Updates on Oregon Star's Shoulder and Recovery
University of Oregon star quarterback Marcus Mariota failed to win a national championship after the Ducks lost to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff, and it appears that's not the only bad news for the potential top-five NFL draft pick.
Dave Reardon of the Star-Advertiser reports Mariota suffered a shoulder injury that could keep him from throwing at the NFL combine at the end of February:
"Marcus Mariota said he is undecided on whether he'll throw at the upcoming NFL Combine as he waits for an injury from the final game of his college career to heal.
"Right now we're still making that decision, whether to throw at the Combine. I had to kinda rest about a week-and-a-half," Mariota said, speaking at a press conference Saturday in Laie, where he was being honored as the first Polynesian College Football Player of the Year. "I sprained the AC joint (in his right, throwing, shoulder). But now, I'm able to throw. Feels good."

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Mariota has been among the most proficient quarterbacks in the country over the past few years, and he could have been a first-round pick in the 2014 NFL draft.
He instead opted to stay in Eugene for his redshirt junior season. He proceeded to win the Heisman Trophy and is now considered by some to be the top overall choice in the 2015 draft.
If Mariota is unable to throw at the combine, it doesn't necessarily eliminate his chances of going No. 1 overall, but it certainly opens the door a little wider for Florida State's Jameis Winston to gain a foothold in that conversation.
