Why Do People Quit B/R? Is It Because of the Hecklers Who Hackle?

Honor Warren Wells TheTorchJul 8, 2009

I am relatively new to B/R, but I have already noticed some people actually leave or quit writing on the site.

Why?

Do the written "hecklers" bother them? Do they feel that they are not getting the correct amount of recognition? Do they feel that their articles fall off the radar too soon?

Do they believe that the rating system is unfair?

Do they feel that their articles are censored or blocked?

Do they feel that the editors are too harsh?

Well, let's just say that tough skin is needed to publish your thoughts openly. If you have the heart and passion for writing, criticism can be good. Haven't you heard, "Iron sharpens iron"?

Also, someone told me a story about a strong man in a battle with another strong man. The first strong man whirled the other in the air, and threw the second man to the ground.

The second man got up and started the battle, again.

The first man picked up the second man, whirled him around, again, and threw him to the ground a second time.

The second strong man got up, and started the battle, again.

The third time, the first strong man realized that his opponent was drawing strength from contact with the ground. So, he lifted his opponent a third time, whirled him, and threw him into the sea.

My point is that some writers draw strength from contact and dwelling in a lowly place. Some writers are not easily discouraged. Some writers persist.

The moral of the story: Don't quit; rather, persist.

A poetic ending:

The hecklers who hackle and hound other writers don't hinder but heighten our passion for writing.
