Granted, it's the shortest of Holidays between the end of the season and Aug 8th but even at the Golf Resort where Luis Figo checked in recently that vacuuming sound you heard was not the early morning cleaning staff. It's been Real Madrid and City who seem to be sucking up the signatures.
Now, no disrespect to good 'Ol Harry. He's as schrewd as any ol Cockney trying to set ya up up with 'a busted sofa'. It was gratifying to listen to him at end the season saying the Club didn't have any money and he'd have to sell to buy. Which may indeed be true, but it wasn't really the point. It was said as fair warning that no one should be trying to sell him another route one striker for 16.5 million pounds. He will sell for sure but let's be clear, in that raising money is not entirely the point. There are character issues at the club. Some players have been found out and will be moved out based on that and rightfully so.
Let's review at bit, the beginning of last season was a disgrace. I'd personally never seen a Spurs team not show the inclination to get after it like that! Say what you will about the boys of White Hart Lane over the years, quitting has not been in the cards and in early 2008-2009 they lacked heart to say the least. The rationalizations that Ramos couldn't communicate, that Gomes and the Defense were out of sorts. Make no mistake, it was heart!
They did of course pull it together somewhat in the back end of the season. But week in, week out you could see in the team who was not focused and who got on with it. Even as they climbed up the table they were giving up points in waning moments of games. It's nice to hear Harry say it's lack of concentration, but it's character. Harry, I love ya! Weeks before you arrived any corner kick at both ends of the pitch cast a sense of dread comparable to losing 10 pts at the start of season because Jermaine couldn't bear to leave his mum in the car. It didn't take you long to sort that out, thank you. The way you pulled Zokora off when he was clearly not up to standards, brilliant. The 5 fullbacks, 3 midfielders, 2 Striker formation with the Hutton and Bale bombing forward, it shows you're not just a 'put your arm around 'em' kind of manager.
So no offense Harry but could ya get on with it please! Get 8 for Bent, 5 for Zokora, 9 for Bentley, deal Pavy if you have to (Lord knows what the problem is, but you know best). It may be that you must get Daniel Levy to approve any offers but if the new kits have any bearing on that input, well don't get me started. We were a selling club last year and it's normal to squeeze for the best price but have you seen the first six games? Get the one forward, midfielder and defender you need to bolster an already solid team and get to work!
