Sting
As if there wasn't already enough intrigue surrounding WWE 2K15, things reached a fever pitch in July when it was revealed that Sting would be available as a playable character with preorder purchase of the game. It was a significant announcement not only because of Sting's status as a legend, but also because it marks his first true involvement with WWE.
The promo that WWE and 2K aired was dark, ominous and befitting of the Sting character. As told to Grantland's David Shoemaker, even The Icon himself was thrilled with his first foray into the world of WWE:
"One of the interesting things I read about the promo video was that for anybody who thought the generational gap would be not in Sting's favor, well, we can put that to rest. The way the crowd reacted was amazing—and even the younger kids who don't know who I am. The painted face, that video—I'm the sort of guy who's really hard to please, but when I saw that video, with the violins playing, it was great.
"
It remains to be seen what type of relationship Sting will have with WWE aside from this video game, but WWE 2K15 should be more than enough to whet the fans' appetites for now. In fact, those who preorder WWE 2K15 will have the ability to play as two different iterations of the Stinger.
As seen in this photo, courtesy of WWE 2K's official Twitter account, both the famed "Crow" Sting as well as the earlier "Surfer" Sting will be part of the game:
There are plenty of characters worth getting excited about in WWE 2K15, but none of them can possibly top Sting. Fans have wanted to see him face the likes of The Undertaker, Triple H, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Rock and many others over the years. While it's possible that none of those matches will come to fruition in reality, gamers can make them happen in WWE 2K15.

Hulk Hogan's return to WWE earlier this year sent shock waves through the business. He served as guest host of WrestleMania XXX in New Orleans, and he has been a great ambassador for the company ever since. Hogan was part of WWE 2K14 last year, but his inclusion this year is his first since officially coming back to the company.
He is unquestionably one of the biggest and most successful stars in the history of professional wrestling. He is a larger-than-life character, and that makes him an absolutely perfect fit for the virtual world. Hogan's inclusion makes several different dream matches possible and allows younger fans to become even more familiar with his contributions.
Also, Hogan's involvement in WWE 2K15 stretches beyond simply being a playable character. The Hulkster revealed on Twitter that he is taking part in a special promotion for the game as well:
Even though Hogan just turned 61 and is no longer an in-ring performer, he is still a huge draw within the business of professional wrestling. Sting may be the main focus this year, but there is no question that Hogan will be vital to the success of this game too.
John Cena
There may be no more polarizing figure in wrestling today than John Cena, which makes him the perfect choice to grace the cover of WWE 2K15. Cena certainly has his detractors, but he is beloved by many and garners some type of reaction no matter where he goes.
As seen in this photo, courtesy of WWE 2K on Twitter, Cena's stoic image on the cover of WWE 2K15 adds a certain amount of credibility to the game:
Cena has done it all in WWE as a 15-time world champion and multitime WrestleMania main eventer, but even he was taken aback by the meaning of being a 2K Sports cover athlete, according to the Miami Herald, via a 2K Sports press release:
"It is truly an honor and privilege to serve as the WWE 2K15 cover superstar. 2K has a tremendous history of sports simulation games and cover athletes, including Michael Jordan, Kevin Durant, LeBron James and of course, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. I look forward to carrying the flag for WWE 2K15 and introducing the incredible next-generation of WWE gaming to the WWE Universe.
"
Cena is unquestionably the most recognizable active wrestler today. His presence on the cover makes all the sense in the world and certainly appeals to a wide-ranging audience. Even though he isn't always met with the most favorable reactions, there is no doubt that he will be among the most often used characters in WWE 2K15.
