NBA News: Shawn Marion As a Dallas Maverick?

The forgotten All-Star has been a big part of the trade rumors lately.

Shawn Marion is part of a sign and trade deal that the Toronto Raptors and Dallas Mavericks have been discussing.

If the trade falls through, then the Mavericks would have a big improvement in getting Shawn Marion.

"The Matrix," a four time NBA All-Star, is one of the most versatile players in the league today. His athleticism and size to defend many positions is greatly valued.

He was also part of the 2004 Olympic team where he was teamed up with Duncan, LeBron, Dwayne Wade, and Carmelo Anthony to name a few of his teammates.

Shawn Marion averages 17.8 points, 1.3 blocks, 1.8 steals, two assists, and 9.9 rebounds per game. His best season (in my opinion), the 2005-2006 season, he was the only player in the NBA being ranked in the top 20 in points, rebounds, steals, blocks, field goal percentage, and minutes.

In that season, he averaged 21.8 points (leading the Suns in points per game), 11.8 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and two steals per stretch.

Looking in another perspective, Shawn Marion is also in the declining part of his career. His golden days, where he prospered most, were when he was playing for the Phoenix Suns.

Now he is aging and in a phase of moving around to find where he belongs.

With the pros and cons out of the way, I truly think the Dallas Mavericks will get the better end of this deal. Having Marion, Dirk, and Kidd in the same team will make the Mavericks a greater playoff contender.

The Dallas Mavericks will be making a great move in signing Marion.
