Why The Minnesota Vikings Are Geared To Have a Very Bright Future

Tanner ThomsJul 6, 2009

After a near three week hiatus from writing about the Minnesota Vikings, I am back. Since then, I have been completely removed from the Vikings writer rankings despite writing over 80 articles about the Vikes all together.

Ridiculous isn't it?

Now that I've returned, I am looking to pick up from where I left off. This is an article idea that I have been thinking over for quite some time now.

It's obvious that Minnesota has a young team and a talented one at that, but are they going to be one of those teams that is good one year and the next year they become an 8-8 team that fails to reach the playoffs?

It looks as though the Vikings are going to be bringing in Brett Favre for a one-year deal to potentially lead us to something that Minnesota has never won before... A Super Bowl.

Brett is near 40 years old, but he still has one or two good years left in him. He will easily be the oldest player on the Vikings roster next season.

Some people are a bit scepticle on whether or not Brett will be able to return to his old formality, throwing touchdowns and hitting the open receivers at a constant rate.

Most of these people are Packers, Bears, Lions fans, or just straight up Brett Favre haters. Honestly, you shouldn't dislike a player because he likes to play the game of football.

You didn't hear many people give any lip to Michael Jordan when he retired to go play for the Chicago White Sox. What about when he retired from the Bulls once again after winning his sixth and final ring, but went and signed with the Washington Wizards in 2002.

If you're going to be un-civil to a guy that just wants to play, then you better end the come-backs of Lance Armstrong, Britney Spears, and Chris Chelios.

At running back we have Adrian Peterson, arguably the best running back in the whole NFL. I, personally, think that he is. Is that a real shocker?

Adrian is only 24 years old. His best year's are obviously ahead of him. I'm excited to see what else this young stud has in store. Minnesota just needs to be careful and make sure that they don't even consider trading Adrian Peterson.

Our starting wide receivers, Bernard Berrian and Percy, are 28 and 21 years old respectively. Harvin will be a rookie, so he has a lot to prove to the Vikings organization and us fans.

Bernard has already shown that he is a great receiver when he has a somewhat accurate quarterback throwing him the ball. Sadly, he hasn't really had that in his entire career.

On defense, Minnesota has a lot of veterans that are going to be able to lead for year's to come.

Jared Allen is considered, by some, to be the best defensive end in the NFL today. He's only 27 years old. I love how this guy plays. Hopefully we will see him taking down the likes of Jay Cutler very soon.

On the opposite side of him is Ray Edwards. This is Ray's make-or-break season. He's nearly 25 years old, and has been in the league for three seasons. Has he showed that he's great? No. But he shows signs of a player that can be a force if he gets the chance.

The Williams Wall could soon just be the "Kevin Williams show" if Pat retires after this season. Pat is nearly 37 years old and is clearly wearing down late into his career.

Kevin isn't exactly young either. He's going to be 29 years old during the 2009 season. Don't get me wrong, he still has plenty left in him. But for how much longer will he be able to be a dominant sack-machine?

So, what's the point I'm trying to make?

Minnesota has a great team of young stars and savvy veterans that will be able to mentor those new-comers and young players, which will allow them to get even better.

Vikings fans have no need to worry that we will soon be a poor team. It will not happen. Mark my words.

As long as we are able to make the right moves, Minnesota should have a very good future.
