I Am Sorry But DA Fans Need To Get a Clue

Dawg PoundJul 6, 2009

I have been watching the debate go on lately on Bleacher Report who should be the quarterback for the Browns. I have always believed it should be Brady Quinn. My reason is that I am not sure that he is the answer but I like what I have seen so far. On top of all that I have seen enough of Derek Anderson to be quite certain that he isn't the answer.

The top two writers for the Browns are Erin McLaughlin and Ollie Ole. After watching the two debate, I am more convinced than ever that Quinn should be the guy. McLaughlin makes very solid arguments for Quinn. He lets it known that he is a Notre Dame fan and admits to being partial to Quinn.

That isn't necessarily a bad thing though. The reality is a Notre Dame fan would know way more at this point about Brady Quinn than a Cleveland Browns fan would. The reason is that they have seen him play a lot more. I was intrigued by McLaughlin's passion for Quinn.I can tell he loves Notre Dame.

I was wondering if his view on Quinn was representative of other Notre Dame fans. Sure enough it is. One guy by the name of Clashmore Mike even said he was the best he has ever seen. I have yet to come across an Irish fan that thinks he was bad. So far all have described him not as good but great.

Ollie Ole on the other hand thinks Anderson should be the quarterback. He is entitled to feel that way but I have yet to hear him make an intelligent argument as to why. Instead he just thinks he can build DA up by tearing Quinn down. It doesn't work like that.

His points are just nonsense. One article he claims that Quinn has no arm strength and then he criticizes him for lifting weights to improve his arm strength. That doesn't make sense. I don't know how he thinks he knows anything about Quinn's arm strength when I am quite certain he is not at Browns practices.

Another ridiculous article puts a You Tube video with homosexual references that Quinn had nothing to do with making. How does that make any kind of argument for Anderson? None of his articles make any case at all for DA.

Some of the points I have seen him try to make for DA are just absurd. One that really makes me laugh is the dropped passes excuse. In the opener he had 9 straight incompletions, were they all Braylon Edwards' fault?

Another one is that Joe Thomas is a bust and the whole line can't protect him. Well it is the NFL and a quarterback has to be able to deal with a little pressure.

How about this one? Weather conditions affected his perfomance. Excuse me Ollie but this is Cleveland and you better be able to perform in poor weather.

Now here is my favorite Ollie Ole argument. Why should the Browns be the guinea pigs for the Brady Quinn experiment when he performed no better than DA? For one thing that is how it works in the NFL. You put a quarterback in and let him grow. Ask both of the Manning brothers who are both Super Bowl MVPs.

As far as him performing no better than DA. That may be true if you only look at stats but if you look beyond the stats it is not even close. However, I will surrender that point because it is an argument for Quinn.

My question to Ollie is,  "are you saying that in his first starts ever in the NFL Quinn is already performing as well as DA who had started about the equivalent of two seasons?" If so I'll take Quinn.

Of course you have the usual Quinn chokes in big games argument. Well I only saw him once in college and it was in the Sugar Bowl. He didn't perform particularly well but he is not the reason they lost. Notre Dame was totally outmatched by LSU and nobody would have done well.

Anderson on the other hand choked against the Bengals who didn't outmatch the Browns. That cost us a playoff trip.

My suggestion to Ollie is to stop pretending you know anything about Quinn when we have hardly seen him. I know this may be a crazy idea to him. but why not ask the people that would know and actually listen to them. Those guys are Notre Dame fans. Also, if you think Anderson is the right guy than make an argument for him that doesn't involve ripping Quinn down.
