Stewart Feels Bad, The Fans Do Not

No NameJul 5, 2009

Tony Stewart claims he felt bad after his controversial win last night. After the race, "Smoke" said that he didn't want to win a race that way, but he went where he needed to go and Kyle went where he wanted to go, and that was that.

While Tony's classy approach fit the bill quite nicely, NASCAR fans around the country didn't follow suit. Through the smoke and spinning cars, you could see the thousands of fans at the track celebrating like they just all won the lottery.

Tony gave Kyle a little nudge to move him just a little bit, and even waited to do it on the straightaway. After he moved Kyle (like Kyle has done countless times), Kyle tried to put a block on Stewart, and sent himself slamming into the outside wall.

He collected many cars after contact with the wall, including some rough hits from Kasey Kahne and teammate Joe Logano. His car was left in shreds, and his ego seemed to take a shot too.

Perhaps he knew he would get fined if he said what he really wanted to, or maybe it was just another fit. Either way, he declined to talk to anyone after the race.

No matter how either of the drivers felt, the energy in the stands was electric. About 95% of the fans at Daytona were glad to see the miracle that had happened before their eyes. The other 5% not so much.

Usually this scinario plays out the other way, with Kyle doing the bump and run. Maybe a taste of his own medicine is what he needed. It will be interesting to see how the relationship of these two drivers plays out on the track.

Both Stewart and Busch wear their emotions on their sleeve, and aren't afraid to say what they are thinking. Two aggressive drivers going for a win at Daytona. This was bound to happen.

There seemed to be a sigh of relief with most fans in the NASCAR community. Most of the fans feel better seeing this event happen to Kyle. It is no secret he is not liked by many people, and he has stated that he likes it that way.

The real story here is the amount of fans that are celebrating the end result of this race, and the July 4th holiday all together.
