Pardon My Interuption: UFC 100 Marketing

Welcome to my interruption.  I was perusing Bleacher Report earlier and came across a very interesting post from Myles Godfrey.  In it, he talks about the lack of marketing for UFC 100.  It is full of great content and talk, but it is my turn to talk about it.  It can be found at THIS LINK.

Once upon a time, the UFC set up a fight between Brock Lesnar (#4 IWMMAR) and Randy Couture (#6 IWMMAR).  It was arranged to be one of the biggest fights in history.  Not only would the match up provide fans with sparks, the guys at Zuffa decided they were going to go all in and truly market this fight.

It is not every day that you see fighters on ESPN.  Mixed among sports giants such as Lebron James, Tiger Woods, and A-Rod was two monsters.  All of a sudden the anchors were interviewing guys named Randy and Brock to hype their upcoming fight.

Everywhere you turned you seen something about it.  You couldn't get away from it at all!  Road signs, radio stations, t.v., it was like a bad horror movie.  The more you tried to avoid it, the more you seen it. 

UFC 100 is going to be a historical night for the MMA giant.  You would think the UFC would be doing more than a Fan Expo to push it.

In Myles' post he specifically talks about the lack of marketing for this event in the UK, but I feel that this is a global problem, not one specific to the UK.

The UFC should be going all in with this event.  They have two title fights.  Brock Lesnar and GSP are two of the most popular fighters in the organization.

They also are showcasing the TUF coaches, Stephan Bonnar, Mark Coleman, Mac Danzig, and more that are fighters sure to draw a fan or two.

In my opinion the UFC missed a huge opportunity with this one.  They should have been spreading this event as much as possible!  Maybe this week they will make a last second push and be seen, but I doubt it.
