UPDATE: Wednesday, July 9, at 9:23 a.m. ET

TMZ reports that Colin Kaepernick's new ink took 27 hours to complete.

Tattoo artist Carlos Torres says the tattooing took place over three sessions, during which Kaepernick sat unbothered by the needle digging into his ribs.

"We did three sittings," Torres told TMZ. "They were each eight, nine hours long. The side of the ribs are a painful area, but Colin laid there like a rock."

Ouch.

End of Update

With the ink still drying on his new $126 million contract with the San Francisco 49ers, Colin Kaepernick is using his funds to remind the world that money is evil.

The 49ers quarterback is adding this message to his extensive network of tattoos. Judging by several pictures of the work, the metaphor will amount to a flesh billboard against the perils of greed.

Designed by tattoo artist/painter Carlos Torres, the work is titled "Money Is the Root of All Evil" and features a biblical Adam and Eve theme. A hand holds an apple, and money is growing from the roots and branches of a tree—just like in the Bible.

Not everyone believes the 49ers quarterback's new ink is fitting for a guy who could become one of the highest-paid athletes in professional football in the next six years. Kaepernick, however, says those people aren't seeing the full picture.

Chill, everyone. Kaepernick is saying that money is only evil if you place it above all other things—or some interpretation along those lines.

Either way, even if he misses his contract escalators (doesn't take 80 percent of San Francisco's snaps, doesn't go to the Super Bowl, isn't chosen for an All-Pro team, etc.), Kaepernick will be stuck baling evil out of his bank account with a pitchfork for the next six years and beyond.
