Dobyns-Bennett Baseball: Miles Chase Throws Gem On Senior Night

Dee WilcoxMay 2, 2008

KINGSPORT, Tenn. -- Four seniors started and made significant contributions as the Dobyns-Bennett High School baseball team beat Sullivan North, 11-0, to make Thursday's senior night a high point to end an up-and-down season.

Miles Chase, one of the seniors, extended D-B's string of consecutive shutout innings to 14 by pitching a two-hit shutout. Kyle Brandon had thrown a no-hitter against John Battle on Wednesday.

The Indians, who finished the regular season at 13-16, needed just five innings to put the Raiders away. Senior Lane Taylor belted a solo home run in the first inning and finished 3-for-4 on the night; classmates Garrett Rich and Trevor McNew each produced a 2-for-2, two-RBI performance.

"They all played very well on senior night,'' assistant coach Josh Warner said. "I am real proud of them.''

The only hits by North came on singles by Hunter Hart in the second and Matt Summey in the fourth. North, which also lost a conference game at Johnson County on Wednesday, 12-2, slipped to 12-15 heading into the District I-AA tournament at Elizabethton. The Raiders will play Happy Valley at 5 p.m. Saturday.

"We played them twice,'' said North coach Steve Dixon. "We beat them in nine innings at our place the first time and they beat us in nine innings at their place the second time. It should be a really good game.''
