Nike to Release New Red, White and Blue 'July 4th' Edition KD7 Shoes

Dan CarsonJun 25, 2014

With the Fourth of July on the horizon, Nike is going patriotic with a new edition of Kevin Durant’s KD7 shoes.

As you’d imagine, the new “July 4th” colorway features all the hallmarks of Independence Day. Red and blue accents run over a white base, giving the kick an American flag vibe.

Nike.com’s description of the "July 4th" claims the shoe was designed to evoke Durant’s love of fireworks and the intentions he once had of becoming a weatherman.

"

Durant’s love for Independence Day with its fireworks, or "man-made lightning," inspired this red, white and blue color way featuring festive graphics on the tongue lining and Swoosh...As a child Durant’s fascination with meteorology led to aspirations of becoming a weatherman...Nike designer Leo Chang created an innovative shoe for Durant that meets the needs of the reigning MVP’s quickness, power and unpredictability, just like the forces of nature.

"

Sounds like Nike’s trying really hard not to say “The Fourth of July is almost here so we made some American shoes.”

Regardless, they’re a pretty sweet kick if you’re looking to add a blast of American patriotism to your shoe game. The coolest part, however, might be the red, white and blue socks Nike is rolling out with the "July 4th."

Those are some recklessly American socks, and I’m in love with them. As for the release date, the "July 4th" will be available for purchase on Thursday, June 26—just in time for the U.S. men’s national soccer team game against Germany.

I know it’s a different sport, but at the end of the day, you’re repping the same team: Team Freedom.
