Brian Burke, A Little over His Head on July 1st??-FOR ALL HOCKEY FANS!

Keith DravidJul 1, 2009

  It's 2 mins till july 2nd.

I turn on the t.v to cheak out what was the result of the beginning of the free agent period. My favourite team THE Toronto Maple Leafs first transaction was the signing of veteran blueliner Mike Komisarek, more known as a stay-at-home defender and his hard hitting. I liked it, he could teach a thing or two to our sensation luke schenn.

Second thing i saw was the signing of Colton Orr. i've seen him play a couple of times but he's nothing more than a 4th line grinder, just souly been needed to start scraps. But it makes me wonder? last year we got a guy who was in my sense very similar to Orr i don't know if you all remember Ryan Hollweg was very much similar to Orr but you'no were he is now? With the marlies not with the

And now your thinking well this is how brian Burke wants to build his team. Gritty, hard-working teams, that are smash mouth, never back down no matter what players.

BUT..

The third transaction he did absolutely broke my heart, he shocked me like there was no tomorrow. Our Brian Burke traded Pavel Kubina and Tim Stapleton to Atlanta for defenceman Garnet Exelby and forward Colin Stuart. For those of you who aren't seeing the picture i'd like to clear things out for you. :d

Okay we'll start with Pavel Kubina a 32 year-old earning around between 5-5.7 million dollars a year, he hits, scores, stops break-aways, steps up plays, runs that power play. This guy won a Stanley cup, has a hard slap shot from the point, and was a good leader in the locker room, he scored 40 points ( pretty good for a defence men) for the beloved blue and white raking up 14 goals and 26 assists in ALL 82 GAMES (no injuries) mustering up 94 penalty-minutes. Also that was his second year straight raking up 40 points and may i add that this years most highly rated free agent defence men jay boomester raked up only 2 more points than kubina. Okay we got Kubina straighten out now we got young prospect Tim Stapleton age 26, who looked like a very promising guy when Cliff Fletcher signed him. Tim (a American) in his last year in Europe scored 62 points in 55 games (29 goals and 33 assists) and this year with the marlies he scored 79 points in 70 games (28 goals and 51 assists), on top of that he also played 4 games with the toronto maple leafs, in his first game he scored the shoot-out winner against the new york Islanders, and in his next game he scored his first NHL goal.

Now WHAT DID THE LEAFS GET BACK FOR THESE SUM-WHAT GOOD PLAYERS???

WELL I'LL TELL YOU WHAT!!

Garnet Exelby a 27 year old defender who by looking at his states does nothing more than spends time in the penalty box. Last year played 59 out of 82 games for the atlanta thrashers raking up 7 points no goals all asists and spent 120 Mins in the penalty box, he hits and nothing more, starts fights, breaks plays but no offensive side like kubina

next up Colin Stuart a 26 year old at most a 4th line left winger who last year played 33 games scoring 5 goals and 3 assists, and very much like the other players toronto acquired today he hits  and starts fights, a IN-YOUR FACE type of guy.

I think we just traded skill for nothing more than Gritt, nothing more than a rip-off in my sense, Atlanta got the upside and nothing more.

we'll see Burke if it was really worth it!
