Will Hossa Raise Lord Stanley's Cup As a Hawk

Michael GibbonsJul 1, 2009

Marian Hossa is jumping to another contender. Today on the first day of free agency Hossa signed a reported 12 year deal that will average over 5 million per season. If this is true it will have Hossa in a Blackhawks sweater till the age of 42.

After being traded 2 season ago to Pittsburgh and helping them reach the Stanley Cup finals but coming up short to the Redwings, Hossa jumped ship and signed with those very same Redwings. Now after coming up short again Hossa is joining an up and coming Blackhawks that surprised most experts by making it all the way to the conference finals this past season.

The signing of Hossa probably means that Marty Havlat, a former teammate of Hossa's in Ottawa, will have played his last game for the Hawks.

After the signing of Huet and Campbell last season the Hawks continued there big spending even with the pending free agency of the franchise center pieces in Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews and Duncan Keith.

Hossa is a power house being a lock for 30 to 40 goals with 30 to 40 assists per season and is only 2 years removed from a 43 goal and 57 assist season. Also plays almost every game, he has never missed more then 10 games in any season.

But the real question is will Hossa be able to lead a 3rd team to the Stanley Cup finals and what does this mean for the youngsters on this Hawks team?

I persoanlly believe this is a great move and brings the Hawks a proven offensive power who has Stanley Cup experience which is something the Hawks were lacking this past season.

Hockey is definately back in Chicago and I fully believe Hossa will be part of bringing Lord Stanley's Cup back to Chicago and look forward to him lighting the lamp against the RedWings this upcoming season. Also  I wish Marty Havlat the best except when he plays the Hawks.
