The firing of Michael Curry on the day before the Free Agency period begins in the NBA certainly raises a few heads.
The Pistons are known to be big players this off season and will likely acquire at least two top free agents and possibly a third.
Trade rumors have also been plentiful.
Firing Curry at this time tells me a few things. Mainly, Joe Dumars already knows who the replacement will be.
You do not go out and sign free agents and not tell them who the coach will be. Most guys will want to wait and see, if that is the case. Being active at 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, as Joe has made reference to doing, will not be very fruitful with no coach in place.
Also, Joe Dumars usually takes pretty calculated moves. There's a reason for what he does—especially a decision such as this one. As hard as it was to do for him, he had no reason to do it unless he had a back up plan.
DetroitPistons.com has Doug Collins, Avery Johnson, and John Kuester listed as possible candidates. Other candidates could be Jeff Van Gundy or Bill Laimbeer.
I do not know who it is, but I am sure they have an answer for the players they start making deals with tonight.
