UFC Rankings for Each Weight Division Following May 31 UFC Events

Sean SmithJun 3, 2014

A very busy UFC Saturday ended with Stipe Miocic thrashing Fabio Maldonado in the Brazilian's home country.

The UFC also held an event in Berlin, Germany over the weekend. In all, 22 UFC bouts were contested on Saturday, with Gegard Mousasi submitting Mark Munoz in the final matchup on the European fight card.

Despite so many fighters competing over the weekend, only a handful of ranked competitors stepped into the Octagon. Still, there were changes to be made in multiple UFC divisions.

With the May 31 events in the books and UFC Fight Night 42 coming up on Saturday, here are the latest official UFC rankings via UFC.com, which were voted on by various members of the MMA media.

Pound-for-Pound

1 of 10

With no Top 15 pound-for-pound fighters competing on Saturday, no changes were made to these rankings.

However, with Benson Henderson set to headline UFC Fight Night 42, some movement could be coming. The former lightweight titleholder will meet Rustam Khabilov, who will be looking to make an appearance in the pound-for-pound rankings despite only having made three prior UFC appearances.

Already right around where he belongs in the pound-for-pound rankings, Henderson isn't likely to improve his standing with a win over the Russian. However, an impressive victory would move him closer to getting an opportunity to reclaim the 155-pound championship.

Heavyweight

2 of 10

With his win over Fabio Maldonado, Stipe Miocic surpassed Alistair Overeem in the heavyweight rankings.

It's an interesting decision by the voters. Beating Maldonado wasn't a step forward for Miocic, who has beaten ranked heavyweights Roy Nelson and Gabriel Gonzaga in his prior two outings. Meanwhile, Overeem is coming off a victory over Frank Mir, who owns a clear decision win over Nelson.

Originally expected to meet Junior dos Santos on Saturday, Miocic would have had a chance to break into the Top Five rankings. Instead, he'll have to wait until his next appearance to reach the next level.

Light Heavyweight

3 of 10

No light heavyweights competed in the two UFC events over the weekend, but some changes were still made to the division's rankings.

With the recent announcement that he'll be fighting Vitor Belfort at 185 pounds, Chael Sonnen fell below Ryan Bader in the light heavyweight standings. If Sonnen is going to commit to the middleweight class, it's the right call to start dropping him at 205 pounds, but he should be ranked above Bader should he return to the light heavyweight division.

Although no ranked light heavyweights are going to compete at UFC Fight Night 42, Patrick Cummins will get a more realistic opportunity to showcase his skills following a mismatch against Daniel Cormier in his UFC debut, which he accepted on short notice.

Middleweight

Mousasi picked up the biggest UFC win on Saturday, as he submitted Munoz in the opening round.

The former Strikeforce champion was rewarded for his victory in the 185-pound rankings. He deservedly surpassed Munoz and Michael Bisping to secure a Top 10 position.

Also picking up a key win over the weekend, CB Dollaway made his first appearance in the Top 15 rankings. With his decision victory over Francis Carmont, Dollaway was awarded the No. 12 spot, moving above Tim Boetsch despite suffering a loss to "The Barbarian" at UFC 166.

Welterweight

Following back-to-back losses, Demian Maia was handed a rebound fight with Alexander Yakovlev on Saturday.

The Brazilian did what he needed to do and picked up a win over the Russian. However, failing to finish the inexperienced UFC newcomer left Maia's performance short of impressive.

He remained a Top 10 welterweight with the win, but he's going to have a tough time closing in on the Top Five unless he makes a big impression in his next outing.

Lightweight

6 of 10

At UFC Fight Night 42, Khabilov will look to burst into the Top 10 with a win over Henderson.

While he'll have a chance to reverse this on Saturday, Henderson fell below Gilbert Melendez in this edition of the lightweight rankings. It's a questionable call, given that Melendez has only beaten Diego Sanchez since losing to Henderson in April 2013.

In another debatable decision, the rankings panel moved Michael Johnson ahead of Myles Jury and Gray Maynard. While Johnson has been on fire, Jury has not lost since beating "The Menace" at UFC 155.

Featherweight

7 of 10

Although eight featherweights competed on Saturday, none was able to break into the Top 15 rankings.

Still, one adjustment was made by the voters. Despite having no wins over currently ranked featherweights and serving a suspension for a failed drug test right now, Dennis Siver surpassed Clay Guida, who is coming off a win over Top 15 145-pounder Tatsuya Kawajiri.

With no featherweights scheduled to appear at UFC Fight Night 42, these rankings are likely to remain pretty similar moving forward.

Bantamweight

8 of 10

Iuri Alcantara made a statement with his opening-round knockout win over Vaughan Lee on Saturday, but it did not advance his position in the bantamweight rankings.

Since Lee was unranked and Alcantara was already coming off a win over No. 15 Wilson Reis, "Marajo" remained in the No. 7 position. Having only lost to Urijah Faber since moving to 135 pounds, Alcantara is becoming a legitimate threat to bantamweight champion TJ Dillashaw.

Scheduled to appear at UFC Fight Night 42, Erik Perez fell below Francisco Rivera in this edition of the rankings. It's another questionable call, seeing as Perez fought to a split decision with Takeya Mizugaki, who recently defeated Rivera on all three scorecards.

Flyweight

9 of 10

With no flyweights competing over this past weekend, only one small change was made to the division's rankings.

Joseph Benavidez is now tied with John Dodson for the No. 1 position. Both fighters have had close fights with champion Demetrious Johnson, but Benavidez was knocked out in his most recent meeting with "Mighty Mouse."

At UFC Fight Night 42, Dodson will have an opportunity to retake sole possession of the No. 1 spot when he meets former title challenger John Moraga. Scott Jorgensen will also meet Danny Martinez on the fight card.

No women competed at the UFC events over the weekend, and none are set to appear at UFC Fight Night 42 on Saturday.

Unsurprisingly, no changes were made to the women's bantamweight rankings.

The next women's UFC fight will occur at UFC 174, where Valerie Letourneau and Milana Dudieva will make their UFC debuts.
