Karim Benzema to Arsenal, Could This Be True?

hidihi hodihoJun 28, 2009

It has been widely reported that Lyons striker Karim Benzema is on Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's radar.

Normally I would immediately dismiss what the News Of The World has to say about transfer speculations, but after seeing the same report in The Times, it gives it some credibility.

The Rumour Mills are doing their rounds reporting the same story.

This speculation would mean Wenger is now going head to head with Fergie. They have both beaten each other with players they were both after in the past (Ronaldo, Walcott).

The catch, however, for Wenger is that he will need to raise funds to purchase Benzema.

Recent reports suggested that Adebayor is of interest to Milan should they fail in their bid to lure Edin Dzeko. Dzeko and his club Wolfsburg insist he is not going anywhere so Adebayor looks like ideal alternative for AC Milan. Wenger is also happy to let him go (as I am sure many Arsenal fans).

Even though Man United have the financial power and the winning factor, there are many good reasons why Benzema may be lured to Arsenal instead.

There is the French connection. He is only 21. Arsene Wenger has the ability to develop him into a greater player than he already is, he will benefit from regular first team starts, and Arsenal are in London.

The difference between Fergie and Wenger is that Fergie looks for players who are ready to go out there and do the job with the abilities they already possess, while Wenger has the ability to make mediocre players into great footballers (in their respective positions).

Benzema will certainly benefit and develop further at Arsenal.

If Adebayor decides to stay at Arsenal, then it is doubtful that Arsene would go for Benzema.  Either way, Arsene would be happy with either.

More importantly, the heartbeat of the team is yet to be bought, the defensive midfielder.

Or is Arsene happy with Song and Denilson covering that area?
