Red Sox Bro Catches Ground-Rule Double, Plays It Way Cool

He didn’t even stop chewing.

A Boston Red Sox fan at Tuesday night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays caught a ground-rule double with an apathy typically reserved for picking up laundry.

Ted Berg of For The Win spotted footage of the catch, which occurred after Dioner Navarro popped one to left field off Edward Mujica. The ball took a strange bounce and hopped directly into the lap of a Red Sox bro, whose chill remained intact throughout the entire process.

This young man clutched the ball, held it up to his girl and continued chewing—because it’s really not a big deal. He’s got his popcorn, his Hartford Whalers shirt and the Styx anthology waiting at home. Life is good.

Even the announcers noticed the fan’s casual indifference to the ball popping up in his lap.

“That might be the easiest souvenir foul ball anyone’s ever gotten,” said Toronto Blue Jays sportscaster Buck Martinez. “This guy is like ‘Aw, yeah. I’ve done it before...you want a foul ball? Here you go.”

Then again, we could be misjudging tightly lidded fury for Fonzie-esque nonchalance. The Blue Jays were smacking Boston around vigorously and no self-respecting Boston fan would consider framing a blooper caught in the midst of a Tuesday night massacre. For all we know he offered this ball up just to keep himself from using it to bludgeon the nearest Toronto fan.

Regardless of intent, Red Sox bro looked cool as hell doing it. He didn’t even break bite-stride. 

Unfortunately for Red Sox bro, the Blue Jays went on to win, 7-4. That’s okay, though. After all, it’s just a regular-season game. So like, whatever, bro.
