Why Can't Liverpool Match Manchester United ?
Manchester United and Liverpool have been the most dominant forces of football in England for over the past 3-4 decades with outburst of Chelsea and Arsenal once in a while. Still the side from Old Trafford is hailed as the best of the two long time rivals.
Many young football fans dont even know that Liverpool were once a unbeatable force in English football, simply because Liverpool's last league title came all the way back in the 1989-1990 season. It has been almost two decades now, and very rarely have Liverpool been out of the title race and the top four slot. They have been quite exceptional on the European turf qualifying to quarterfinals or above for the past 6-7 years and winning Europe's top glory on 2004-05 season and losing in the finals in 2006-07 season. So why hasn't Liverpool been able win a single league title for the past 20 years?

The pace at which United do things is uncomparable. They never glory hunt like some Galacticos (no offence though). Even now when they let go of both of their prolific scorers, Ronaldo and Tevez they are not looking for stardom. They are looking for people like Antonio Valencia and Karim Benzema whom probably could become greats at United.
Well you cannot say things like that to Liverpool. They give opportunities to their youth academy players but after they start a few games they sell them to second league teams. So there is no possibility of "Busby Babes" or "Fergie's Fledglings".
After Rafa Benitez's arrival at the Meryside club, there is a small spanish armada grouping up at Liverpool. Arbeola, Alonso, Torres, Riera and Reina all spanish players taking their place in the first team. There is nothing wrong in bringing Spanish players to the side. Its just they find it difficult to accommodate in England and are not capable of playing in different positions.
Look at United in the CL Finals. They played Cristiano Ronaldo, arguable the world's best winger upfront and Wayne Rooney, England's best striker in the wings. They lost but never mind its the variability and adaptivity which a player can provide when the team requires from him.
Liverpool has been trying too many weird formations. Once i saw a 3-1-2-3-1 formation at Liverpool. Now what is that? Its was of trying to make every player play in his favourite position. It never works ! Never!. Their game is circled around Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres but adjusting everything to make them happy is way too much compromising. Liverpool has to make a move. They have to set their minds in one piece. Then I'm sure they will "Never walk alone".
