WWE Raw: Thumbs Up Or Thumbs Down?
After watching the show, I thought I'd take a look at RAW and give each match either a thumbs up or a thumbs down.
Match One: Jeff Hardy, Great Khali, and Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho, Dolph Ziggler, and Edge
There were some good moves in this match, as well as a few comedy spots. It's good to see some fresh talent, like Ziggler, get a chance to play with the big boys. However, it was a fairly short match and it didn't advance the storyline at all.
I give it: Thumbs up. Not great but not that bad either.
Match Two: Primo w/Carlito vs. Cody Rhodes w/Ted Dibiase Jr.
It was a very solid match. These guys are the future of WWE, and it was good to see them prove themselves in a singles match. There was the typical heel win by grabbing the tights, but overall they put on a good performance.
I give it: Thumbs up. I'm looking forward to the tag team match at The Bash.
Match Three: Triple H vs. Randy Orton (Last Man Standing for the WWE championship)
Why wasn't this match the main event? These two went through the crowd, used the steel steps, and there was even a ladder involved. Orton was never going to lose this match, but it's a good build up to their match at The Bash.
This was Orton's first Last Man Standing since breaking his collar bone at last year's One Night Stand Pay Per View. At one stage, I thought that Orton might've broken it again when he RKO'd Triple H on the announce table and he clutched at his neck and shoulder.
I'd say this was the best RAW match in recent history. It was definitely Pay Per View quality.
I give it: Big thumbs up!
Match Four: Mickie James and the Bella Twins vs. Maryse, Beth Phoenix, and Rosa Mendez
It was a short match with Mickie James dominating. Great Super Kick by Mickie to win the match.
I give it: Neither. It was just a standard Divas match that didn't do anything for me.
Match Five: John Cena vs. Big Show
How many times do we have to watch these two go at it? It was a very slow match, like always. It was obvious that The Miz was going to show up at the ringside and interfere in the match.
I give it: Big thumbs down.
Some random thoughts:
John Cena has yet another T-shirt to add to his collection. This guy must have his name on half the merchandise in WWE!
I'm not a fan of The Great Khali, but at least he's being portrayed as a dominate superstar again.
It's good to hear the crowd really getting into the matches for once. They were very vocal.
Wouldn't it have been good if Mr. Kennedy was still on the roster? He could have had a big homecoming at Green Bay tonight.
I can't believe that the Trump storyline looks to be over already. It was shaping up to be a decent move by WWE.
Could Vince possibly be the biggest heel in WWE now? After buying back Monday Night RAW, the fans weren't very happy to say the least.
It was announced that, on Smackdown this week, there was going to be a match where Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio would take on Edge and Chris Jericho in a cage match. They had the tag line "Rage In A Cage." Could WWE be testing out the new name for a Hell In A Cell Pay Per View?
WWE seems to be allowing chair shots to the head now. The amount of them has been slowly increasing in the last few months. Even on RAW, during the Last Man Standing match, both competitors received shots to the head.
It's good to see The Miz is going to have a match against John Cena at The Bash. RAW could be a real success with the likes of The Miz, Kofi Kingston, and MVP on the roster.
Why does WWE continue to shove John Cena down our throats? He is constantly in main events even though he isn't the champion. Hopefully, he'll be able to utilize his status and put over The Miz at The Bash.
