Thomas also spoke to Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times about Sherman's potential deal with the team:

Original Text

It has been a relatively quiet offseason for the Seattle Seahawks, but that's because Pete Carroll and John Schneider have been busy fortifying their Super Bowl-winning roster.ย ย ย ย

The fruits of their labor became blindingly apparent on Monday afternoon, as the 'Hawks reportedly agreed to a massive four-year contract extension with safety Earl Thomas, per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport:

Fox Sports' Mike Garafolo cleared up some details regarding the new contract:ย

Tom Pelissero of USA Today provides further specifics:

Secondary mate Kam Chancellor, meanwhile, was quick to congratulate his teammate, while Carroll had a differentย way of celebrating:ย

This is a gargantuan deal, but good luck arguing that Thomas isn't worth it.

Already arguably the most complete safety in the league at just 24 years of age (he's younger than 'Hawks quarterback Russell Wilson and already has 64 career regular-season games under his belt), the 5'10", 202-pound Thomas resembles a heat-seeking missile while on the gridiron. Whether it be in the running or passing game, he flies from sideline to sideline, blowing plays up in the backfield or in the secondary.ย

Thomas finished last season with 105 combined tackles, two forced fumbles, five interceptions and nine pass deflections. He is a three-time Pro Bowler, has been named a first-team All-Pro the last two seasons andย finished thirdย in Defensive Player of the Year voting while leading Seattle to a Super Bowl in 2013-14.

Blessed with an unbelievable blend of size, speed and instincts, there is no one in this league quite as explosive as the former Texas standout.ย Sportsย Illustrated's Doug Farrar and NFL Network's Rich Eisen argued his immense worth:ย

This is a big chunk of money for a team that still has other priorities, but Thomas is unequivocally deserving.ย

Next up for the Seahawks is Richard Sherman. The boisterous shutdown cornerย has been rumoredย to be on the brink of a new deal, per Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, and with Chancellor extended last year, it's looking like the Legion of Boom will be safe in Seattle until almost the end of the decade.ย

With negotiations planed for Wilson next winter, the 'Hawks will likely have a large chunk of money tied up with just a couple of players, but they'll also get to build around one of the most talented young cores in the league.ย
