Diego Sanchez Is an Animal !!

chris feaverJun 21, 2009

After watching the Ultimate Fighter Finale and seeing the dominante preformance that Diego Sanchez put on Clay Guida im convinced that he can beat BJ Penn and take the lightweight belt.

For the first time that i can remember someone was in my opinion more intense and had more stamina than Clay Guida. The flurry that Diego put on in the opening 30 seconds of the fight did more damage than i've seen Clay take in any fights. There is no doubt in my mind now that there is no lightweight that will be able to stand and beat Diego, plus the fact that he is a brown (but considered by most to be a black) belt in jujitsu shoud mean that he will have a hard time finding someone that will be able to hang with him. It has also been said in the past that no man would be able to out cardio Clay Guida and i think that Diego came as close to doing that as you can get. Guida is a fantastic wrestler and as stated by Joe Rogan he is a master of shutting down a fighters jujitsu with his superior strength and wrestling.

Although Guida did spend a lot of time on top in the fight it should be noted that it wasn't as overwhelming as he usually is. Diego inflicted a ton of damage with some of the best and most lethal elbows from the bottom that has ever been seen. In my eyes Diego won every round simply because even though he was on the bottom for most of the second round while he was there he caused alot of damage, tried almost non stop for submission attempt and positioning, and worked alot harder than Guida. It seemed as though Guida was using alot of his time on top to try and wear Diego down with strength instead of going for a finish, no t to take away from his ground and pound attempts but it seemed as though he was a bit tired and frustrated.

It hasn't been confirmed but i would say it's pretty obvious that Diego will be next in line for a title shot. Against either Kenny Florian or BJ Penn it seems as though he will have an advantage. The tougher fight would probably be against Penn with his improved stand up and high class BJJ. But Kenny is no slouch and if he can get past Penn it would be a fun fight to see. Stylistically the excitement would come from a Sanchez vs Florian war but from an MMA stand point Diego vs BJ would be a technical battle that could go down as on of the best ever.

With his new hunger to be the best and be a champion along with the intensity that he has always shown we could see a lightweight champion in Diego that will be as dominant in his division as GSP or Anderson Silve have been in their respective divisions.
