Chris Chelios Will Play for USA in 2010
Even though he is no youngster at 47 years of age, veteran defenseman Chris Chelios has confirmed that he has indeed been asked by General Manager Brian Burke to join the US Hockey squad as they take another run at winning a gold medal at the upcoming 2010 Olympics.
For all you hockey fans who might be scratching your heads in bewilderment, let me explain that Chelios—who played for US at the Nagano Salt Lake and Turin games—has been courted this time around for an off-ice position.
“The greatest warrior of all was Chelly,” said Burke.
Even though no specific role has been assigned, Burke insisted that he somehow wants him involved. This multiple Stanley Cup winner who is ranked No. 1 among defenseman for games played in the regular season and playoffs is still planning on coming back next season. With his contract expired in Detroit rumors have been circulating that the Chicago native might just return home for a second stint with the Blackhawks.
