Joe Burgett's Wrestling Rant Of The Week!

Joe Burgett Jun 21, 2009

Welcome to Joe Burgett's Wrestling Rant of the Week, brought to you by B/R. Yes B/R. the most powerful name in articles involving sports/sports entertainment.

Strangely enough though, many believe that they can actually beat B/R. I believe B/R was one of the first to make a open source network for sports online like this. It seems that they have been the most successful. They are like the WWE, NFL, NBA, or NHL of their field, simply the best.

You may not agree with some of the things they do from time to time, but for the most part you know they do way more good than bad.

Trying to beat them is irrelevant, do your own thing. It is sort of like what TNA is trying to do with the WWE if you will.

Just like the AFL that went down to the football giant in the NFL, TNA is trying to hard to be an equivalent to the WWE. If you keep trying to do this TNA, you will surely go down.

It seems as if they have to use the older gentleman in the main events, and it is really starting to bug me. TNA has great young stars there, yet the pick the older crappy wrestlers to represent them.

Don't get me wrong, I loved watching Sting, Kevin Nash, and others back in the day. But that is the key, it was back in the day that they were good. Now, they are nothing to special.

Lets put it this way, if they were at the same skill level they are now when they arrived to WCW or WWE, then they would be nothing but a jobber or mid-carder at best. They would never see the main event.

To bet it all on them is like telling a random fat man off the street to run a mile in record time. It is useless and waste of time, because you know it won't happen.

This is what TNA is doing, and unless they figure this out, they WILL go down just like ECW and WCW before them.

Onto the WWE...

It looks as if the WWE will finally letting the fans decide something, or are they? They are going to do a small rivalry with World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk and Jeff Hardy for The Bash.

And depending on the reaction Punk gets, he will stay face or turn heel.

Punk looks to be in the middle as of now, as a guy trying to defend his actions and thinking all he did was take an opportunity and made the most of it.

And what he is saying is spot on, had he of cashed the Money In The Bank on Edge, we wouldn't have the discussion of not liking him.

But he didn't, he cashed it in on Hardy. And because of the fact Hardy is a superface for the company, fans hated the fact Punk cashed it in on him.

So therefore, they boo him. It seems as if he has been getting booed more every week. The SmackDown after Extreme Rules, he seemed to get booed a bit, but it was more of a mixed reaction than anything.

Now, boos seem to be filling the arenas more and more as the weeks pass by.

I feel this is a great idea by the WWE to let the fans watch Punk's character evolve and also get a chance to see him turn into an edgier superstar, which is something fans have wanted to see for a while now.

However, it seems obvious that the WWE already has plans to turn him heel. I mean if he keeps getting booed every week, then there is no reason to keep him a face. It is like when Randy Orton was getting cheers more often than boos.

He now seems to get more boos, but before it was mixed. Yet it didn't matter with Orton, because if fans didn't like him then that was ok, because he was a heel and it was expected.

If they cheered, then so be it. He was still the same character they were booing before, and he would continue to be that. They would eventually stop liking him when he went over on another big name face.

However, with Punk you cannot just let things be. Because he is a face, cheers are expected, not boos.

The WWE obviously knew the WWE Universe would not like the fact they had Punk cash in MITB on their beloved Jeff Hardy. So naturally, they expected to see this.

I would like to see an angle where Punk just gets fed up with the fans, he would feel like they are mistreating him for no reason and that would make him turn into the bad guy, or heel as we call it in wrestling.

It would work because it would be relatively true. The fans are really booing him for no reason, other than the fact he cashed in MITB on Hardy.

The WWE may be waiting to see the fan reaction, but lets face it, they already had the heel turn planned. So expect it to happen, it is only a matter of time.

The Hardy/Punk rivalry seems to be the best thing they can do for the two right now, especially for Punk. Unless Hardy decides not to resign, then they probably will keep this going longer than The Bash.

There have been others who say that Edge could turn face, but there are many reasons that won't work, lets go over them.

After the wonderful John Morrison/Edge match on SmackDown, the two could be in a feud soon. Morrison lost to Edge, but that seemed to be ok because Edge was beaten at ER then was pinned on RAW during the World Heavyweight Title match.

So it was fair to give him a win, also Morrison had been on a hot streak, barely losing to anyone on SmackDown.

The WWE could think about doing this rivalry in the future, but it looks like they are not going to do it now because Edge needs time off.

Edge has not had hardly any time off in a while, and because he has been in the main event picture, he has been in some grueling matches. Such as a Ladder Match and two Elimination Chamber matches.

On top of that, he has been doing a full time schedule. Which meant he was doing house shows, TV shows, and autograph signings naturally. Many times being over booked in fact.

That is a part of the process, but Edge is in serious need of time off and it looks as if the WWE is going to give it to him.

Punk turning heel would be good for SmackDown because Edge would be gone and they need a guy to take his spot during the break. Undertaker will be back around Breaking Point or Summerslam, and that would fill the face spot Punk would leave open.

Now, while I do not agree Punk will be a good heel for the WWE (because they would not use him like he was used in ROH), he is needed for the spot because of Edge taking time off.

Will Edge come back face? I don't think so, but you never know.

He hasn't been a face since 2002 or 3, so it would be about time to turn him face if they wanted. However, he has been such a good heel for the WWE, I don't know if it would be good for business.

Morrison has been slated for house shows to face Chris Jericho for the Intercontental Championship, so that may be something to look forward to on SmackDown in the coming months.

Moving on...

TNA has a feud with Christopher Daniels and Shane Douglas, aka, the the man with the creepy farmer's tan vs the best man who has never been World Champion.

Daniels is too good for this feud, why in the hell do you give him Douglas to rival when he is supposed to be in the World Title mix?

Douglas is waaaayyyy past his prime, that is if he was ever in a prime.

And I absolutely hate his tag line, "your gonna get franchised"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the NFL have something called the franchise tag?

It basically gives you a contract to keep you on the team, they don't want to lose you so much that they have to tag you until they can get a better deal for you.

So basically, there is no threat there if you ask me.

He is out of shape, terrible in the ring, and just needs to go.

If he ends up actually winning in his match with Daniels, which has the winner take a roster spot and the loser goes home, then I will stop watching TNA.

Daniels is one of the best to ever step foot in TNA, and Daniels has to result to facing a guy who he was better than at the start of his wrestling career than Douglas ever was?

TNA needs to end this soon, before people change the channel and don't come back. They are trying to get ratings I'm sure, not lose them.

My Rant is done
