My Two Cents: Steroids, Lies, and Videotapes

Pain In the Ankiel

Since MLB couldn’t snag Barry Bonds, they decided to taint arguably the best comeback story in sports history.

With Jayson Tatum sidelined, Celtics' fourth-quarter comeback falls short in Game 7 loss to 76ers

The Cardinals' Rick Ankiel admitted to buying supplements that were believed to be HGH. The purchase occurred almost three years ago, when Ankiel was still a pitcher

Here’s a question for the powers that be at MLB: If you want players to admit to using performance-enhancers, why would you tarnish the resurrected career of a guy who hasn’t used them since his return?

Honestly, you idiots should focus on the postseason and save these allegations for November. Unless of course you were happy with the World Series ratings from last year.

Hart and Soul

How bad has it gotten in The Big House?

Wolverines running back Mike Hart personally guaranteed a win this weekend against Notre Dame.

Are you kidding me? How bad do you have to be to guarantee a win against a winless team?

Mr. Hart, you don’t look like Joe Namath to me. Here’s the dilemma, Mikey: Chad Henne is out against the Irish, which means the village idiot that Lloyd Carr calls a backup will be under center.

Don’t be surprised to see Jimmy Clausen grab his first win. Without Henne to complement Hart, there's a good possibility that Michigan fans could be crying again come Saturday.

Patriot Act…Tarnished

At first I thought I was watching Punk’d when I heard that Bill Belichick could be in hot water for allegedly taping the New York Jets sideline during Sunday's game.

In my honest opinion, I don’t think that Belichick would sink so low...because he doesn't have to. When you have Tom Brady and Randy Moss, do you really need to cheat to win?

Commission Roger "Castro" Goodell would do well to focus on football instead of disciplining Belichick for a phantom crime. The Jets, I'm sure, have bigger things to worry about. Besides, every team has game film on their opponents. If you really want to steal signals, all you need is a video production guru.

My Thoughts and Prayers...

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Kevin Everett, the member of the Buffalo Bills who suffered a life-threatening neck injury this weekend.

At release time, Everett was making a spectacular recovery—he has feeling in his arms and legs and was actually moving them a day after he was told he'd never walk again.

As a person who's broken his neck, I'm relieved to know that Everett has regained movement. And for the record: It doesn’t matter what team you root for, what team you hate, or who your favorite players are. Athletes are people just like the rest of us. There isn't a sports fan in the country who isn't praying for a full recovery.

And so I don’t forget, six years later:

9/11—WE STILL REMEMBER!!!
