Perfection

An Iowa high school senior named Matt Dermody threw a six inning perfect game yesterday in which he struck out all 18 batters he faced.  He credited his exceptionally good control of his fastball that day as the reason for his success.

The game was the first of a double-header.  In the second game, Dermody’s best friend, junior Kole Klocko threw a five inning no-hitter with 10 K’s.  Klocko issued a single walk, which prevented back-to-back perfect games.  Dermody also hit homeruns in both games, and Klocko added a pair of doubles.

Dermody’s and Klocko’s games went short because of a league rule that ended the games when the score reached 10-0.

Dermody was drafted in the 26th Round of this year’s amateur Draft last week and is still in the process of deciding whether he will go the University of Iowa or play pro ball.  His coach says he has a fastball in the mid- to high 80’s, and a good curve and change up.
