Bayern Munich vs. Manchester United: Simulating UCL Quarter-Final on FIFA 14

Nick AkermanApr 6, 2014

Manchester United travel to the Allianz Arena knowing a draw will send them through to the Champions League semi-final. David Moyes' season of woe could be saved with one memorable result, or Pep Guardiola could end the Scotman's hopes of elite European football next season.

After a brief hiatus, we're back in the FIFA 14 simming game. Can the Red Devils upset the current Champions League titleholders with a performance to remember? An Xbox One version of EA Sports' game will tell us all.

Remember—the score is 1-1 after the first leg. We've left Wayne Rooney out of the squad after his recent injury, per BBC Sport, and all other relevant injuries/suspensions have been adhered to.

Bayern Munich vs. Manchester United: FIFA 14 Highlights

Conclusion

There we have it. A tame effort from Moyes' men ensured the victory we were all expecting. Let's take a look at the key stats:

1Goals0
3Shots0
2Shots on target0
65%Possession35%

Well, United improved on their possession rate of 26 percent from the first leg. Unfortunately, the visiting side failed to offer an attacking presence without Rooney and were limited to Danny Welbeck-inspired breakaways, which couldn't find Javier Hernandez in the box.

The lack of highlights is rather disappointing. As the stats show, neither side excelled here. Bayern were always comfortable, while United's defensive efforts halted their ability to get forward. Will this happen in the real tie?
