Fantasy Baseball Free Agent Pool: Strikeout Kings
Some reasonably available players to assist you in the strikeouts category. Realize that some of these will come with high ERAs and WHIPs because if a pitcher has low numbers in those categories and a good K total, he's already spoken for.
Ricky Romero, Toronto Blue Jays
Ricky had a strong week with 15 Ks, a 2.70 ERA, and a 1.12 WHIP. His K/9 ratio was 10.13, and his K/BB ratio was 3.75. On the year he’s 3-3 with 41 Ks, a 3.73 ERA, and a 1.34 WHIP. He’s owned in 14 percent of Yahoo!, 7.7 percent of ESPN, and 37 percent of CBS leagues.
Andrew Miller, Florida Marlins
Miller picked up 14 Ks last week, sporting a 5.40 ERA and 1.54 WHIP. His K/9 ratio was 10.8, and his K/BB ratio was 3.5. On the year he’s 2-3 with 43 Ks, a 4.56 ERA, and a 1.56 WHIP. He’s owned in three percent of Yahoo!, 1.7 percent of ESPN, and 25 percent of CBS leagues.
Scott Richmond, Toronto Blue Jays
Richmond threw a gem last night, giving up one run on five hits in eight innings with 11 Ks. On the year he’s 5-3 with 60 Ks, a 3.58 ERA, and a 1.21 WHIP. He’s owned in 23 percent of Yahoo!, 15.7 percent of ESPN, and 46 percent of CBS leagues.
Ricky Nolasco, Florida Marlins
It appears that Ricky is figuring things out. In his last two starts he has 13 Ks, a 2.77 ERA, and a 1.46 WHIP. His K/9 ratio was 9.0, and his K/BB ratio was 3.25. On the year he’s 2-6 with 50 Ks, a 7.62 ERA, and a 1.73 WHIP. He’s owned in 46 percent of Yahoo!, 62.1 percent of ESPN, and 76 percent of CBS leagues.
Jose Contreras, Chicago White Sox
Contreras picked up his first two wins of the year in his past two starts, going 16 scoreless innings. His WHIP was a staggering 0.38, and he racked up 11 Ks. On the year he’s 2-5 with 28 Ks, a 5.32 ERA, and a 1.36 WHIP. He’s owned in 12 percent of Yahoo!, 4.9 percent of ESPN, and 26 percent of CBS leagues.
