Niklas Backstrom looks to win his first Vezina Trophy award Thursday at the NHL awards banquet in Las Vegas.

It is the first time the NHL is holding its awards banquet in Las Vegas.

Backstrom is among the three finalists, along with Columbus Blue Jacket Steve Mason and Boston Bruin Tim Thomas. It will be only the second time in six years that someone other than New Jersey Devil Martin Brodeur will win the award.

The other time Brodeur did not win it was 2006 when Calgary Flame Mikka Kiprusoff was the winner.
