Wake Forest PG Teague Rising Up Draft Boards

Brandon BoydJun 17, 2009

The man has credentials. He was a 2009 NCAA Second Team All-American, averaging over 18 points per game for Wake Forest. He scored 34 in a victory over eventual champions, North Carolina.

His name is Jeff Teague, and your favorite team just might be looking at him.

It is a guard-heavy draft. That much can be admitted. With Ricky Rubio, Jrue Holiday, Stephen Curry, and Jonny Flynn all vying for selections in the top 10, Teague might just be forgotten about.

He's got the talent to be with that group of young men, however.

He reminds me of Ben Gordon and perhaps Monta Ellis. Jason Terry? Baron Davis?  Teague could turn out to be like any of these guys. He is a shooting guard in a point guard's body. But that could turn out just fine—it has for the other aforementioned players.

Still not convinced? Let's hear some numbers. His wingspan is over 6'7" and he shot 44 percent from the three-point line. He also averaged about two steals per game.

NBA teams are looking at him like he's a supermodel.

Teams rumored to be interested in Teague include the Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves, Atlanta Hawks, and Dallas Mavericks. If it wasn't for his lower production towards the end of the season, Teague might just be ranked ahead of Curry, Flynn, and several other guards in the draft.

That's alright. Teague's been overlooked ever since he got to Wake Forest, and it's happening again. He'll just have to prove everyone wrong.

Again.

Look for a preview of another NBA prospect tomorrow!
