Joe Buck Caught in 'Disgusting Act'

JoeSportsFanJun 17, 2009

Joe Buck Live debuted Monday night on HBO and for some reason, Joe Buck was disgusted with his performance on live cable television. In the event you didn’t hear/see any of it, take a look at “comedian” Artie Lange “tarnishing” the debut show. It is definitely not safe for work, unless you work at HBO or something.

As you figured out, clicking the pic takes you to Deadspin, where they actually have the video of the incident. Of course, this incident led to Buck’s public disapproval of his inaugural show:

“I thought that spending time on a treadmill felt long. That was like 8 or 9 minutes that turned into an eternity. You know, it’s cable, you can get away with it. It’s not my style. But, you do one show and you learn and you move on.”

Buck told reporters he thought Lange had an “agenda” when he came on stage to discuss the intersection of sports and celebrity. He was sorry Lange took time away from actors Paul Rudd and Jason Sudeikis of SNL. But Buck said there was little he could do to control the invited guest without “kicking him off the set” or hitting a “trap door.”

“Do I think it went too far? Yes,” said Buck. “Will he be back? If it’s up to me, no. But again it’s live TV man.”

So yea, the man who thought Randy Moss’ fake mooning was a ‘disgusting act’ had Artie Lange and two SNL castmembers on his debut show. Sounds like a little precontrived pot-stirring recipe to me. “But hey, it’s live TV, man”. Right. On top of that, Buck has Our Favre as his primary sports guest and does nothing to combat the wave of Favre-love still sweeping much of the media landscape.

Uh, Joe, don’t try to deflect the negatives by playing the role of Captain Virtue. You and you alone are responsible for your show. Besides, what the hell are you doing this “alternative sports show” on HBO for if you aren’t willing to cross the line a few times? That’s not a commendation of Lange or whoever else by any means, but the slogan for your show is “A NEW SPORTS SHOW WITH A FRESH NEW SPIN.”

And your show promos? Uber-lame.

More media circus buffet to follow.
