Brandon Polk Commits to Penn State: Nittany Lions Land 4-Star WR

Tyler DonohueMar 25, 2014

Penn State secured a commitment from its second wide receiver recruit in an eight-day span on Tuesday when explosive playmaker Brandon Polk pledged to the Nittany Lions.

The Virginia prospect picked the program days after spending time in Happy Valley, reports Rivals.com analyst Ryan Snyder:

He visited Penn State last weekend and quickly determined it's the place he wants to call home in college.

Polk, a 5'9", 152-pound speedster from Briar Woods High School (Ashburn, Va.), is the ninth player to join James Franklin's 2015 class since Feb. 15. Fellow 4-star receiver Juwan Johnson (Glassboro, N.J.) committed last Monday.

Polk helped push Briar Woods to 13 victories and a state title game appearance last fall. He caught 36 passes for 549 yards and five touchdowns as a junior, per MaxPreps.

Among Falcons receivers, those statistics trailed only 2014 Minnesota signee Melvin Holland's. The talented duo ran routes for quarterback Trace McSorley, who is set to arrive at Penn State this summer.

"I'm excited to get to play with him again," McSorley told 247Sports' Sean Fitz. "He brings speed that is unmatched, he has great body control and is a great route runner."

Polk lacks ideal size but blows past defenders with world-class speed. He's been clocked at 4.36 seconds in the 40-yard dash, per 247Sports.

Diminutive and dangerous, Polk finds optimum seams in the defense and exploits them with elite quickness. His shiftiness presents Penn State with plenty of options in the slot.

He could also contribute as a punt returner and rushing weapon on misdirection attempts out of the backfield. The dynamic talent gained 180 rushing yards on 22 carries last season.

Polk suffered a preseason stress fracture in 2013, costing him the first month of the season. However, he quickly found his groove on the field and looked comfortable during a deep postseason run.

Polk picked up a Penn State offer in early February. His eclectic list of collegiate options included Stanford, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin.

Polk provides a Penn State with field-stretching speed and continued momentum on the recruiting trail. The Lions' class has blossomed in recent weeks, ranking No. 4 nationally and No. 1 among Big Ten Conference opponents in 247Sports' composite ratings.
