Manchester United Fans Hope to Lose Derby vs. City to Stop Liverpool's Title Bid

Mark PattersonMar 25, 2014

Manchester United have a huge game at home to city rivals Manchester City today, but some Red Devils fans say they'd be more than happy to lose the game—if it means that even bitterer rivals Liverpool then miss out on the title.

United's chances of a title defence have long gone after a mediocre season, but Brendan Rodgers' side has been flying high in what looks at present like a three-way race for the crown between City, Liverpool and league leaders Chelsea.

United can influence the title race, however, and the result of tonight's derby will swing the title race one way or the other:

If it means the scousers don't win the title then I hope City beat us at Old Trafford. Ideally Chelsea will win it though out the 3 #MUFC

Discussing with Mancs in work if they think they'll beat City for us tonight. Got a few groans & a 'we'd rather lose so you don't win it'.

Whether you agree or not, it's certainly a sign that times have changed at Old Trafford.
