Real Madrid Transfer News and Rumours Tracker: Week of March 17

Samuel MarsdenMar 18, 2014

It’s hardly the week for Real Madrid to be thinking about summer signings.

Their Champions League match with Schalke might effectively be a dead rubber, but the draw for the quarterfinals of the competition on Friday is certain to get people excited.

After that, there is the small matter of the visit of Barcelona on Sunday, in which a win would almost rule the Catalans out of the league title race.

With that being said, the odd transfer snippet will still pop up in the press somewhere.

The following slides will be updated regarding any information media outlets are reporting on possible ins and outs at the Bernabeu.

Last update: Tuesday 18 March.

Angel Di Maria

Tottenham are on standby over the future of Angel Di Maria, according to talkSPORT, which cite sources in Spain.

Apparently, Carlo Ancelotti wants to retain the Argentine international, but the Real Madrid board would like to cash in on him this summer.

Madrid’s Italian coach has used Di Maria as a central midfielder in recent months, and the 26-year-old has formed a key part of a side that is now unbeaten in 30 matches.

Even if he does become available, Spurs will certainly face some stiff competition.

Asmir Begovic

Tuesday 18 March

In one of the more surprising stories—not least because Real Madrid already have Diego Lopez and Iker Casillas—Asmir Begovic has been linked with a move to the Spanish capital by John Richardson of The Express.

The English paper says that the goalkeeper’s club, Stoke City, will only sell for £15 million.

Manchester City, Manchester United and Arsenal are listed among the other clubs interested in securing the services of the Bosnian stopper.

Speaking to Sky Sports News (h/t Jamie Dunn of Goal.com), Begovic played down any interest in him from either Madrid or United:

"

There is no truth as far as I am aware. I have not had contact with either club, so from my point of view it is flattering to hear those kinds of words. Like I said, they are two of the biggest clubs in the world and who wouldn’t be flattered if you mentioned them in the same breath as those two clubs?

"

Toni Kroos

Tuesday 18 March

The future of Toni Kroos is a bone of contention at the moment.

Bayern Munich’s midfielder is approaching the final year of his contract, and without penning a new deal yet, interest is growing in the German international.

Real Madrid were one club linked with the 24-year-old, but Charles Perrin of The Express says they have shirked at the £40 million price the European Champions are asking for.

That could open the door for Manchester United.

Tuesday 18 March

According to Madrid newspaper AS (h/t Football Espana), Alberto Moreno has already told teammates at Sevilla that he will join Real Madrid next summer.

The report says he will replace Fabio Coentrao at the Bernabeu, competing with Marcelo for the left-back position.

Moreno, 21, has a buyout clause of €30 million. However, Sevilla may sell for €15 million.

Rafael Benitez’s Napoli are also keen, but Moreno, who has already made his debut for Spain, has his mind set on the Spanish capital.
