Barcelona brushed aside the challenge of Manchester City in the last 16 of the Champions League, winning 2-1 at the Nou Camp to seal a 4-1 aggregate victory. During the match, the plaudits on social media were all for Lionel Messi.

And no praise was more noteworthy than that from former Barcelona and England striker Gary Lineker (some language NSFW):

Messi makes me realise how shit I was!

Feel shittier by the minute. #Messi

— Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) March 12, 2014

In all seriousness, Messi produces more pieces of exceptional skill in a single game than I managed in an entire career.

To be fair to Gary, Messi's marginally the better player—but at the same time, the Argentine would be a much less skilled host of Match of the Day.
