Why LSU May Have a Chance at The BCS Title in 2009
This article will be a short and sweet one, but I plan on getting the point across. The SEC will be stronger than most people think this coming season. Florida, Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU, and Georgia will all be ranked going into the season. Auburn, Tennessee, and South Carolina should all have a better team than last year. The point though is that there is a particular team that could make a run for the title that is not predicted to get there, and that team happens to be the LSU Tigers.
After a very unimpressive season in 2008, every one began to lose hope in the Tigers. Their QB was not a "star" and their offense couldn't get anything going. Their defense, as always, did shine though, and they led the Tigers to a winning season. After the BCS title win in 2007, Les Miles tried to hard to do it again and it back fired. What I mean by this is that he tried to go with the same offensive scheme with a different offense, and couldn't. The team he had could't run this type of offensive game against the teams they played. He had a new offense, but an old playbook that the team didn't comprehend.
Now in my views last season was a warm up year for the Tigers. Les Miles found little success in his team, and that's exactly what he wanted to find out. I'm not saying he wanted to have an unsucessful season, no. What i'm saying is that he wanted to find out if this kind of game plan would work, and it didn't.
This season will be the year he uses all of the knowledge he obtained last season, and use it to take them to a title game.
This season, as I said, the SEC will be strong. LSU will play against three teams that's starting in the top ten in the country: Ole Miss, Alabama, and Florida. They will also play Georgia, Auburn, and Vandy, who are all expected to have a good season. Georgia will be a ranked team going into the season. Auburn is expected to be ranked going out of the season. I believe that if LSU can get past Ole Miss, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia then they will be either #1,2,or 3 going into the post season. If they beat Alabama and Ole Miss they will be in the SEC championship game against Florida.
If the Tigers can beat Florida there is no doubt in my mind that they will be in the BCS National Championship game.
The LSU Tigers may be in for a treat in 2009, but can they do it? Can they go all the way? We will only be able to watch from here.
