Don't Worry Alabama, Pete's Got Your Back.
Pete Futiak recently commented on the Alabama ruling by the NCAA. He basically said that it was not up to the NCAA to penalize Alabama and that it was up to Alabama to punish itself. I suppose all felons should get the same treatment. I wonder if good old Pete would think the same of individuals or corporations. If the NCAA does not possess this ability to punish or supervise schools, then what exactly is its purpose?
Pete's "thinking" seems to begin that poor student athletes are under-compensated and need extra money. That is complete idiocy. Student athletes have to be among the most pampered and spoiled people on earth. They attend school for free, get stipends and get opportunities most people can only dream about. Yes, they work hard and generate enormous revenues for the schools. I only wish some of that money would go to reducing tuition's for other students. Student athletes who whine about money are not living in reality. There is ample evidence of this, but not enough time or space in this forum.
Also, the thought of any major university voluntarily policing itself is laughable. Violent crimes, drug use and major thefts are continually reported. I have yet to see any significant programs stopping such behavior. The University of Miami physically attacked its opponent in 2008 and the president of the university attempted to pass it off as an isolated incident. That university has a well established history of cheating and physical incidents. The football team has been sanctioned more than once. I bet that she believes that record oil prices and record oil profits are a coincidence as well.
My point is this, football fans want victories and not excuses. They want "winners" and not model citizens. This has all been brought up and prov en by profesional sports writers before. It is just to bad that Pete Futiak was to busy to study them before he spouted out his own version of reality.
