Madden NFL 15: How to Design Logos and Uniforms for Upcoming Game

Brian MaziqueMar 5, 2014

Uniforms and helmet logos are all the rage in the NFL. When a team unveils a new design, it gets almost everyone's attention. In the next Madden, gamers will have the opportunity to relocate, rename and redesign the identities of their teams.

The designs for new logos and such are being created right now, and EA Sports is allowing gamers to assist in the process.

In Madden NFL, gamers have the option to relocate one of 32 NFL teams in Connected Franchise mode to another city with three options for team logos & uniforms. All these teams are now up for a re-design.

"

If the design you come up with is picked, it could appear in the next game. You can read the official rules for the contest here.

Fans are being encouraged to create a primary home, away and alternate uniform design.

That's right, do it big.

There are 17 recommended cities to use for your redesigned franchise, although the team at EA Sports will accept designs for other cities as well. Here are the recommended locations:

  • San Antonio
  • London
  • Los Angeles
  • Mexico City

  • Orlando
  • Salt Lake City
  • Brooklyn
  • Memphis
  • Chicago
  • Sacramento
  • Columbus
  • Portland
  • Austin
  • Dublin
  • Houston
  • Oklahoma City

There's also a list of nicknames that are recommended, but just like with the city choice, EA Sports will consider teams with different nicknames. Here's that list:

  • Dreadnoughts
  • Marshalls
  • Express
  • Bulldogs
  • Black Knights
  • Monarchs
  • Dreams
  • All Stars
  • Aftershocks
  • Diablos
  • Golden Eagles
  • Conquistadors
  • Huskies
  • Mounties
  • Thunderbirds
  • Orbits
  • Wizards
  • Sentinels
  • Elks
  • Pioneers
  • Flyers
  • Dodgers
  • Beats
  • Yanks
  • Hounds
  • Egyptians
  • Steamers
  • Cougars
  • Blues
  • Tigers
  • Miners
  • Condors
  • Redwoods
  • Aviators
  • Panhandles
  • Caps
  • Snowhawks
  • Lumberjacks
  • River Hogs
  • Bats
  • Armadillos
  • Desperados
  • Derbys
  • Shamrocks
  • Celtic Tigers
  • Oilers
  • Gunners
  • Voyagers
  • Night Hawks
  • Bisons

Some of the possibilities are cool. Check out these designs from EA Sports designers.

That's a pretty healthy list of options, but I'm sure gamers will come up with alternatives. An EA rep asked for my own personal submission. I decided to go a little outside the box. I chose one of the recommended cities—my hometown of Chicago—but I went with a nickname that wasn't listed.

What player wouldn't want to play for the Chicago Ninjas? Check out the logo that was spruced up by the EA Sports artists.

Admittedly, I didn't do all the steps in the process. I can only imagine how much better it would have come out had I gone all out.

The tutorial provided goes in-depth. A more talented graphic artist could really come up with something awesome.

Creating and submitting your design is a three-step process. Click the links to see the tutorials on how to create the logo, design it and the submission portion of the process. The contest closes on March 7, so aspiring artists need to hurry.

This is the first bit of information on the new Madden. It's awesome to see the game moving in a direction that seems to be encouraging customization.

Follow me. I like sports and video games...a lot.
