Roy Hodgson's side looked laboured at times against the well-organised Danes, but a promising performance from man-of-the-match Raheem Sterling and the introduction of Adam Lallana lifted the spirits in North London.

Kasper Schmeichel was in fine form between the posts for the visitors, and did well to deny both Sturridge and substitute Danny Welbeck.

But with the clock ticking down, Sterling's short corner was played to Lallana, who whipped in the perfect cross for Sturridge to nod home.
