Despite a consistent start, Tiger Woods finished Day 1 well back of the leaders at the 2014 Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Starting on the back nine with a series of solid tee shots, Tiger made par on his first eight holes before dropping a birdie at 18 to make the turn at one under par.

The journey got rockier on the front nine, with a double bogey on the second hole essentially eliminating any chance for Tiger to finish below par. More up and down play concluded with an impressive birdie on the final hole, sending the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world to the clubhouse at one over par, six shots back of early clubhouse leader Rory Sabbatini.

As the Masters draws ever-nearer, Tiger will be looking for a better outing on Friday at the PGA National Golf Club.

Day 1 Result: 1 over par 71
