Miguel Cotto Vs. Joshua Clottey, Saturday, June 13th on HBO
World Championship Boxing returns to HBO this Saturday, June 13th with the most meaningful match up in the welterweight division in years with the highly anticipated Miguel Cotto vs Joshua Clottey fight.
This fight will provide the answer to who is indeed the true number one welterweight champion in the world.
It all happens from the world's most famous arena: Madison Square Garden in New York on the eve of the Puerto Rican Day parade.
Miguel Cotto (33-1, 27 KOs) who is the current Pride of Puerto Rico, has an outstanding track record of big wins at the legendary Garden over Judah, Mosley, Malignaggi, Abdulaev, and most recently, Cotto regained his second welterweight title with a knock out win over Jennings last February.
Cotto's one and only loss came by the highly suspected cheating banned plaster of paris hands of Margarito. Cotto is one of the very few fighters who has always taken on true legitimate challenges fight after fight and that is why he has become a household name at such a young age.
Joshua Clottey (35-2, 20 KOs), from Ghana, who now lives out of the Bronx is a force to be reckoned with. Clottey is an elite fighter who has proven to be a true champion with his win over Zab Judah obtaining himself a welterweight title.
Clottey is strong, durable, and a powerhouse. He is often avoided and feared by most welterweights. If Clottey wins over Cotto Saturday night, he would establish himself as the true number one welterweight in the world. Clottey will be the toughest opponent Cotto has ever faced and that is saying a lot with Cotto's very impressive resume.
Jim Lampley, Max Kellerman, and Emanuel Steward will be ringside for the event, which will be presented in HDTV and in Spanish on HBO Latino. Larry Merchant and Lennox Lewis are off to Canastota, New York to be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame on June 14th.
WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING: MIGUEL COTTO VS. JOSHUA CLOTTEY is presented live SATURDAY, JUNE 13th (10:35 p.m. ET/7:35 p.m. PT) from Madison Square Garden, exclusively on HBO.
HBO will not be televising the Klitschko vs Haye fight as planned on Saturday June 20th due to the postponement. However HBO will return June 27th with Boxing After Dark with a doubleheader from Los Angeles 10:00 p.m. ET/PT preceded by the premiere of “Mayweather/Marquez 24/7” at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT.
