Zlatan Ibrahimovic's 20 Greatest Goals

Sam TigheFeb 19, 2014

In case you didn't catch it, Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a thunderous strike against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday night to essentially seal the tie.

With Paris Saint-Germain placing one foot into the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals thanks to his genuine brilliance, we take a look back at 20 of the Swede's most impressive strikes.

Enjoy the gallery and add your own if you think we've missed one!

20. Stop-Start Teasing vs. Brescia

1 of 20

At one stage against Brescia, it seems the impetus for attack is lost, but Ibrahimovic pulls the defence to a standstill before bursting into the box and finishing with relentless power.

Few with his size can generate the quickness to make room for the shot.

19. Firm Finish in the Clasico

2 of 20

Ibrahimovic didn't give the greatest account of himself in La Liga, but he did win a Clasico with this outrageous finish.

Daniel Alves digs out a pinpoint cross, and as opposed to a regular finish, Ibra nearly takes the net off with his strike. This may or may not be a theme for goals to come.

18. Power and Finesse

This goal outlines the many shades to Ibrahimovic's game. He boasts powerful running and forceful dribbling yet exhibits finesse at the right time and an ability to delicately stroke the ball when required.

This driving run ends in a deft lob over the goalkeeper.

17. Unorthodox Near-Post Flick

4 of 20

Be warned: There are plenty of flicks in this compilation.

Here, Adriano superbly makes room for a cross, but it's a poor one, yet Ibrahimovic is able to turn it into a good ball by flicking it beyond the 'keeper from an impossible angle.

16. Acrobatics for Ajax

5 of 20

Note: Skip to 1:15

Here, Ibrahimovic shows flexibility at a young age for Ajax.

A hopeful free-kick is lofted in, but it looks far too close to the goalkeeper to trouble anyone...until Ibra gets a giant foot over the top of it and deftly guides it into the net.

15. Hulk Smash vs. Palermo

6 of 20

This is why you let Ibrahimovic take your free-kicks.

With the ball that close to the edge of the box, many will suggest it's too close to be able to get it up and over the wall. That's OK, though, if you simply intend to take the net off instead.

14. Casual Flick vs. Marseille

7 of 20

Paris Saint-Germain ground out a 2-2 draw with Ligue 1 rivals Marseille in this fixture, and their point came courtesy of a beautiful flick finish from Ibrahimovic.

How he can shape his foot to keep that down yet generate so much power is astonishing.

13. Turning It Home...from Behind the Opponent's Head

8 of 20

Another example of Ibrahimovic turning hopeful balls into accurate shots can be found here, as he pulls off an outrageous back-heeled flick against Bastia.

Turning the ball home from behind an opponent's head? That's remarkable athleticism.

12. Ibra Stuns Euro 2012

9 of 20

In a dead-rubber game against France, Ibrahimovic still managed to make things entertaining for spectators and viewers.

A ball into the box from the right is a little wild and misplaced, but the towering striker executes an incredible scissor kick to divert it past Hugo Lloris.

11. Acute Angles for Ajax

10 of 20

Note: Skip to 0:55

This goal utilises great awareness, body strength and exceptional technique for one so young.

He drags two defenders to the byline, jinks past both to enter the box and fires in a ridiculous finish at the far post.

10. Rocket at the Bay Arena

11 of 20

Here's the goal that sparked this collection: his rocket against Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League.

He hadn't played his best game up until this point, and despite getting on the scoresheet via the penalty spot, he had held back in sparking attacks.

This probably makes up for it, though.

9. Flick and Go

12 of 20

This is a goal where Ibrahimovic shows every plus-point in his repertoire.

He collects a long ball, flicks it sky high in an unorthodox move, and outmuscles and outpaces the defender before firing a bullet strike past the 'keeper. No chance.

8. A Deft Touch

13 of 20

Note: Skip to 0:29

Here he plies his trade for Juventus, just doing what he does on a regular basis.

He chases a long ball out of defence, beats the offside trap and deftly flicks the ball over the goalkeeper with a first-time finish. Absolutely unbelievable.

7. An Intuitive Back-Heel Finish

14 of 20

Ibrahimovic rarely celebrates goals with gusto—he's so used to finding the net, what's the point?—but there are some that even he goes nuts for.

This back-heeled finish against Atalanta counts as one, and it really is a thing of beauty.

6. Tricks and Poise for Malmo

15 of 20

Note: Skip to 0:35

Not much of his time at Malmo is spoken about, as many young people believe he started his career at second club Ajax.

Here he shows ridiculous poise on the ball, shrugs off multiple defenders and cuts a finish across the 'keeper.

5. It's a Long Shot...

16 of 20

Here, Ibrahimovic chases down a long punt out of defence against Lecce, turns it into a pass and half volleys a ridiculous cross-body lob into the net.

That's a heck of a way to break the deadlock.

4. What on Earth?

17 of 20

Did he mean to put it in the top corner? You wouldn't bet against it.

After some pinball in the box, the ball falls to Ibrahimovic, who produces an insane flick to direct the ball toward the goal. It loops up and down, nestling right in the spot where the man on the line can't reach.

3. Potshot vs. Benfica

18 of 20

We saw a similar goal to this one earlier in the season by Haris Seferovic, but it doesn't quite reach the levels that Ibra set against Benfica on a glorious European night.

He takes a touch, but the ball doesn't quite get out of his feet to allow him to continue to run, so he just decides to smash it on goal. Bang.

2. The Scourge of Joe Hart

19 of 20

Even England fans applauded this one.

Sure, Joe Hart doesn't cover himself in glory by coming out of his own area to head the ball more up than away...but just look at that finish.

Unbelievable.

1. Ajax Slaloms

20 of 20

This is the all-time great, and as of yet, unbeaten goal in his collection.

He slaloms in and out of challenges as defenders helplessly fall by the wayside, twisting and turning his way to the penalty area. He fakes once, twice, three times and then sends the 'keeper a dummy and fires home.

Amazing.
